Julian Sark was a man who looked out for himself.

It was the first warning she got when Joan pitched her the mission. That mission had a lot of warnings attached to it, the biggest of which being Sydney Bristow, one of the most notable spies ever to pass through Langley’s doors, standing over Joan’s shoulder and looking very much not happy. APO, whatever that was, wanted this mission. They wanted to be the one to wrangle Sark into submission and get whatever intel he had. But instead, Sark took it to the DPD.

Joan had looked like it was Christmas, her birthday and Thanksgiving all rolled into one.

None of that pertained to where she was now, however. She was there for information. To figure out what this group Sark had managed to affiliate himself with was planning and go from there. She wasn’t sure why Sark was willing to offer this information, but it was the mission, and she was willing to follow the mission as well as she could. Didn’t stop her from thinking that this dress was a little too low cut for her tastes.

She adjusted the neckline one last time before there was a punctuated knock and an annoyed accent coming from the other side of the door. “Preferably before the end of the evening, Ms. Walker. We don’t want to be late.”

She rolled her eyes into the mirror and did a few last minute touches on her makeup, before opening the door. Sark was leaning against the doorframe, and he looked up when the door moved, eyes roaming over her before meeting her gaze again. There was a scrutiny to it, as though he was looking for flaws or comparing her to something-what, though, she wasn’t sure. She let him for a minute, before raising an eyebrow at him. “Well?”

His eyes met hers again, and he pressed his thumb to his lips for a moment before speaking. “Not bad.”

There was something about that ‘not bad’ that went straight to her gut, and she shook it off before reaching for his arm. “Let’s get this over with, shall we?”

“Yes,” he nodded. “Let’s.”

***

She was starting to see the perks of being a bad guy.

She was eating chocolate that probably cost more than she made in a week. The champagne was starting to go to her head a bit, but not enough that she was going to get sloppy. True, she was there to obtain a weapon of mass destruction to keep it out of enemy hands, but there was no saying she couldn’t take a little bit of an advantage.

Sark’s contact put them off for another day, so they returned to the room. Annie had her heels off seconds after she came in the door, and gave a bit of a tired sigh as she shook out her hair. She could still feel Sark watching her in that cool, critical way he had, and she turned around to face him again to find him much closer than she thought he’d be. “Can I help you with something, Sark?”

“You remind me of someone.”

She took a step back, but he followed her, staying in her personal space. He smelled good, and it felt good to have someone that close again, but she knew it was wrong. He was the bad guy. He was the asset. She didn’t back off fast enough however, and Sark swooped in to take advantage. His arm slid around her waist, pulling her in closer as his lips crashed into hers, and she didn’t resist. He tasted like chocolate and champagne, and it left her feeling dizzy, but she pushed him away, a little more firmly this time, before heading to her room.

“Goodnight, Sark.”

She wanted to smack the smirk in his tone right out of him. “Goodnight, Agent Walker.”
