Two updates within a week (or so) of each other! You should only be so lucky. You know to no longer question the world when you see a man walking down the street holding a giant (80's) boombox to his ear (+music). I'd like to not become that jaded and aloof urbanite that is surprised at nothing, but I think I'm moving in that direction. Now that I work at the hospital (HCMC) I ride the number five bus in addition to the number two. I've officially earned the title of person that rides the scariest busses in the TC area. Although I don't think they are so bad. Part of living in the city, oc. People are generally quite nice, at least during the day. I haven't ridden the five at night, I prefer to be out of the hospital by about five or so. Go home and get things done, I suppose. This semester is kind of shitty, all of the GCs feel bad for me. I feel bad for me. Although this weekend isnt too bad, just physiology studying and going over advanced pharm. Next weekend, though, ultimate disaster. I've got the phys midterm right after it, I'll have to read and build a presentation for advanved pharm (since we haven't gotten our papers yet), and read and build a presentation for the toolkit class (and face up to the Q&A session). I'm not so much looking forward to the next two weeks as I am the two weeks after that.
Paul and I should be meeting next week to discuss the long term for me staying in his lab at HCMC. It's totally inconvienient to the U, but I think I'll like it in the long run. I like the people there. I did tail bleeds friday on all of my rats, which is a pretty simple procedure. I think that is something I can definitely handle myself, right away. I'm hoping to meet up with Andrea Yoder this weekend, we haven't chatted since the school year really began, I don't think. But we will see. I'm not much for this set of papers that Stan Thayer gave us for adv pharm. I don't care for biophysics or electrophysiology, really at all. I'm sort of becoming a kinetics-behavior person, by default of Paul's lab.
I don't have much to update, just things to do every day. The like of a graduate student is much less glamorous than you think. Especially in Minnesota in winter. Which is great up until just after new years, and then it seems to drag on through the ages. Chowder the cat has been particularly naughty, and I'm pretty sure my roomate Anne hates him now. If I were her, I'd be mad. But alas, he is a kitten and kittens are naughty. Much like this is a city, and strange people live in large cities. These strange people also ride the nos. two and five busses.
When I get a thesis project in this lab (after mid-March perhaps), I will update and let you all know what I'll be doing for the next five years. Until then, caio.
