Things I've Been Reading and Watching

Nov 12, 2010 15:01

I have been making up for my recent lack of reading/TV-watching time (and avoiding the mountains of homework I should be doing) by bingeing on entertainment. So, without further ado...

Sherlock. OhmygodSherlock. CURSE YOU, MOFFAT. YOU AND YOUR VERY ENTERTAINING SHOWS. Benedict Cumberbatch is my new favorite person, and not just because he is insanely attractive he has the greatest name in all the world. I mean, really. Who names their child Benedict Cumberbatch? I guess they're the same sort of people who name their kids Sherlock and Mycroft. Also Holmes and Watson are in love. (I mean, what? Who said that?)

I finished the series 3 of Secret Diary of a Call Girl yesterday, and I am in love. It's bouncy and funny, I love that it constantly breaks the fourth wall, Bambi and her impossibly large eyes fill my heart with joy, and of course Billie Piper is impossibly endearing. And also frequently in lingerie. (Who keeps saying these things?)

I also finished The Hunger Games a couple of weeks ago. I have to wait till winter break to read the other books, so DON'T SPOIL ME, but I really enjoyed it. I had a hard time getting into it (I didn't love the writing and couldn't stand Katniss), but I was hooked once I hit the actual Games. The characters grew on me, and something in the style finally clicked. Some of it still seemed very contrived and silly (coughcoughtheromancecoughvomitcoughcough), but in general, I really liked it. Of course, the only character I truly liked was Rue, and she, well...yeah. I didn't actually have an issue with her death or her death scene. It worked. But I did have a big problem with the fact that Katniss continued to compare Rue to Primrose even after she died. Rue's role was to show that the dying tributes were real, individual people, not just numbers or placeholders, and she deserved to be mourned as such.

Oh, and can we just talk about Darren Criss on Glee? As in what a breath of fresh air he is after such a long time dealing with Will, Finn, and Rachel? And how Kurt was absolutely smitten? And how he made me like a Katy Perry song, even if it was just as unnecessarily autotuned as everything else on the show? And how he saved an episode in which Will pity-kissed Coach Bieste, which was high douchebaggery if I've ever seen it? (Really, it was insulting, inappropriate, and utterly typical of Will Schuester. Although I would prefer he went after Bieste than kept harrassing Emma. Those scenes with Emma make me so uncomfortable. She clearly doesn't want to be there, and he's downright creepy.) And how I really, really like his new haircut? A lot more than I expected? I mean, I knew he was attractive, but he was never one of my particular Starkid crushes (those are mostly Joe Walker, Joey Richter, Lauren Lopez, and Brian Holden). In conclusion, every Glee episode should feature Darren Criss being beautiful.

That last "paragraph" makes me want to go apologize to the gods of grammar and sentence structure. SORRY, GUYS.

glee, billie piper should be my best friend, books, starkid, random acts of fangirling
