during the start of the week, our filipino group has planned to set thursday as our project-making day. and guess what? our achievements for today are only buying materials and planning on what to write. btw, our project is a slumbook of a character in the story jacobo assigned to us. this project will serve as our fil11 finals. how great...
though i was tired and very sleepy (i only had 4 hours of sleep), i still managed to go out and watch a movie with my blockmates after our "project-making" session. :) cel kasi eh! wahahahah :) cel and i have been wanting to watch a movie even before we started on our project. sa sobrang katamaran, around 2:00 we stopped working on our project and decided to just continue it tomorrow monring. argh. pupuyat na naman ako!
after wrapping up our project, cel kept on insisting that we go watch a movie, and of course, i agreed on her impulsive plan! hehe we tugged chuckie along with us, and i also invited mac since she only lives near shang. at first, we can't decide on what movie to watch, but the only movie that can fit our schedule for the day is ladder 49. so, ladder 49 it was.
when i saw the trailer and read the synopsis of this movie, i thought i wouldn't like the movie. feeling ko parang boring.i only got convinced by its good reviews, saying that you rarely get to see these kinds of heroic movies today.
the whole movie happens on the night jack morrison, played by joaquin phoenix, is on the verge of life and death in one of their missions. as he struggles for his life in the burning building, his life flashes back from the day he joined the men of ladder 49, the day he met the love of his wife, the different achievements and struggles he faced as a firefighter and how his job has changed his life.
what i liked about this movie is that it gives us a different premise- a movie about the lives of firefighters. according to an article i read in mtv.com, there are only four movies about firemen- two that were made in the 70's and i forgot what their titles are, backdraft (released more than a decade ago which had a number of big stars like robert de niro, kurt russell, etc.) and ladder 49 as the latest. also, the movie is not what i expected as it is - the transition of the scenes was executed well. ang ganda ng effect sa scene ng baptism ng anak niya then yung tumutulong tubig sa forehead ni joaquin phoenix.
the movie had a simple story, yet it gives an emotional impact to audiences. the drama here is just right- not raw nor overcooked. of course, effective performances and chemistry of the actors. wala dito yung cheesy acting ni john travolta hehe! naluha ako sa bandang ending (sorry pero natouch talaga ako!) pero natawa ako bigla dahil sa kaharap naming humahagulgol!:)) sama ko ba? hehe
yes, worth it ang pera niyo sa ladder 49. strongly recommend ko tong movie na to for everyone. bihira nga tayong makakita ng movies about heroes who save people's lives yet we fail to give them the recognition that they deserve.
argh andaming okay na movies to watch for the sembreak!
