So....now that I am more aware and not high on benedryl and robitessin (sp?), I feel that I have been able to sort of process this election.
My thoughts are pretty scattered, but...oh well...
1) I cannot believe the election is over. Even though I am not happy with the outcome, I feel as though a massive weight has been lifted. I also feel like everybody else is a bit relieved--even in the hard-core-red Clemson. Rather than being suspended in limbo, we can now sort of plan for the near-future.
2) I am realllllly trying hard not to be a sore loser. I really hated how some liberals acted when Bush won both times; I always felt their behavior was immature, disrespectful, rude, condescending, bratty, etc., and I really do not want to be compared to that. I will not wish Obama dead. I will not start riots at his inaugration or around the white house. I will not threaten to move out of the country (but really, where would I go? America is the best, most free place on earth). I will let my democratic friends celebrate: I will not bring them down simply because I didn't get what I wanted. I'm actually avoiding all liberals and facebook today because I KNOW that they are all elated, and knowing me, I will probably say something I will regret. As long as nobody says anything personally negative to me, I will just ignore all celebrations. I would want the exact same thing if the situation was reveresed.
3) I will not no longer post anti-Obam tirades if he did nothing to deserve them....example: some democrats blaming everything under the sun on Bush (katrina, global warming, 24 getting delayed--it happened). I will not end every post with a "I hate Obama" because I do not hate him; I think he is a nice man. I hate most of his policies.
4) I was going to say that I would not blame all my problems on the government, like so many liberals seem(ed) to do under Bush, but if the government becomes a nanny-state, would I not be in the right to blame the government?
5) I am very interested to see what happens. From what we know about Obama, and from what we have experienced under Pelosi-Reid, we have an idea of what a Democrat-run government will look like. However, I am curious to see if Obam governs as a centrist or as a leftist. It would be best for his political career to govern as a centrist; however, all of his ideas from his presendtial campaign--during which candidates try to make themselves as moderate as possible--consisted of massive government entitlement programs and a fairly weak foreign policy. His idea of a centrist is a classic democrat. I hope for America's sake his plans work, but history has shown that all his ideas are doomed.
6) Conservatives are pissed off. The GOP is no longer the party of Reagan. We have become waaaay to moderate. We need to elect some classic conservatives and settle for nothing less. We need new leadership. Sarah Palin? Huckabee? Ron Paul? Giuliani? Romney? I know some of those aren't the ideal, but I think they all represent parts of the republican party, and I think they all can be helpful in re-engergizing the party back to life. Sarah Palin is pretty much awesome all-around, so I think she's a clear leader (and front-runner for 2012?).
7) This was a protest vote. I still believe that America is a fairly conservative nation. Everybody is just sick of republicans screwing everything up. I bet most people thought that the situation couldn't get any worse, so why not take a chance on Obama. Fair enough. The republicans deserved it.
8) I do believe that a lot of the people that voted for Obama are stupid. And/or lazy. But I do think that a lot of the people that voted for him are smart. But honestly, I think race was a strong motivator in this election. I also think it was largely a popularity contest. People have their reasons for voting for candidates, and that's fine. But I reserve my right the think their reasons are stupid. These idiots have no idea what they have gotten America into.
9) I think there should be limits placed on who can vote, such as only people who own land; or only people who pay taxes.
10) Yesterday, while I was on fall break, I was laying in bed after a nap, and I thought "wouldn't it be awesome if I could do this all the time? Just lay here and watch TV..." Then I realized that under Obama, I could do that, and still receive income. What scares me is that the idea of receiving a check from the government and watching TV all day seems like fun to me. I need the fear of having no health care and no money to motivate me to work; without it, I have no incentive to better myself of my society. This is what wealth redistribution does to people, SENATOR OBAMA! If I can watch TV all day and still make money, that sounds a HECK of a lot better to me than getting up, putting clothes on, and having to take orders. And WHY WOULD I want to work if a large portion of the money just goes to other slackers...?
Based on what we know about Obama, I think he will be an utter disaster. But hopefully I'm wrong.
It is going to be a very rough 2-4 years for conservatives.
