And he's amazing.
Born on July 2nd, at 2:39 pm, weighing a mere 5 pounds 11 ounces, and 18.5 inches long.
Labor lasted only 6 hours, and was done basically med free.
He's currently fast asleep on Josh's chest in the living room.
Pictures and a birth story
I got to sleep at 4am, and "woke up" at 5 to get ready and go.
We got to the hospital at 6am, and settled in for what I thought would be a long day.
At 8:30 the nurse started me on pitocin.
The contractions started up right away, but were very manageable.
They checked my cervix, and I was still only 3cm dilated, 70% effaced, and Miles had still only dropped down a little bit.
At 9 the nurse came in and upped my pitocin, and the contractions get a bit stronger.
They offered me some pain meds, but I declined, hoping to wait it out until I could get the epidural.
At 10 they upped the pitocin again, and I could no longer talk through the contractions.
The nurse checked me, and I was still only 3cm, but I was now 80% effaced, and the baby had moved down one station.
The contractions then got very hard, and very close together, and I felt the mainly in my back. I squeezed Josh's hand for dear life through them, whilst moaning "I wanna go home. I wanna go home."
At 12:30 they checked my cervix again, and I was almost at 4cm.
At this point I couldn't bear the contractions anymore, and gave in to the epidural.
I asked for one, and was told the anesthesiologist would be in to see me in about half an hour.
LIES!!
The contractions got even closer together, and were completely mind-numbingly awful.
I literally screamed through them.
They put me on a birthing ball to help with the back labor, and try to get the baby to move down.
An hour passed, and there was still no epidural.
I could hear the nurses in the hallway yelling to each other "GET DR. SO AND SO HERE NOW!!"
At 2 the on-call doctor came in to check my cervix, and I was 9cm, 100% effaced, and the baby was at +2 station.
My jaw dropped. The epidural still wasn't there.
They didn't want to give it to me because I was so far along already, and it likely wouldn't even take effect in time.
Right after she checked me a woman came in to give me the epidural.
I was screaming at the top of my lungs during the contractions, and the woman was a complete bitch to me. "I'm not going to do this if she's going to scream like that. You'd better tell her to stop screaming. I can't stand that in my ear."
Umm, excuse me bitch, but my baby is coming!!
A second after she put the needle in my water broke.
Next thing I knew I was screaming "I NEED TO PUSH!"
They sat me back on the bed, and a ton of nurses and doctors came in.
Josh and my mom were out in the hallway still because they weren't allowed in there when I got my epi.
The anesthesiologist was still being a bitch and yelling at me stop screaming and "Taking the Lord's name in vain."
She gave me the bullet dose of the epi which is a shot of the meds before the IV drip starts.
As soon as she was done, it was time to push.
Josh still wasn't in the room yet, and I started yelling for him.
He made his way through the crowd just in time to see Miles crowning.
The epidural hadn't really kicked in yet, and I could feel pretty much everything.
However a minute or so later it started to work a bit.
I wasn't numb, by any means, but it did take the edge off the contractions.
I could feel the contractions, and feel myself push, but I'm sure it would have been much more painful had I not had the epi.
In fact, I found myself cracking jokes in between contractions.
One of the nurses laughed and said that this was her favorite delivery ever.
10 or so pushes, and he was out.
Crying loudly, showing off his super lungs.
I didn't have any tears, just a few miiiinor ones on the inside that just make it so that it burns a little when I pee.
I am recovering beautifully, and they let us come home today.
He's already the best baby ever.
He came out and was totally alert and just looking around all content.
He doesn't really cry. Doesn't fuss.
Breast feeds like a champ.
He's pretty much perfect.
I still can't believe that my labor was only 6 hours, and that I did all of it without any drugs.
I'm so unbelievably amazed at what my body can do.
And finally, what you've all been waiting for.
Some pictures!!
(for all of the ones we've taken so far, here's a link to the public view of the album on Josh's facebook
