Ode to a cat

Shakespeare the cat
is my silent mentor
he leads by example
teaches through observation
watching us struggle
to change ourselves and others
we strive
to inspire and affect
trying to become better
somehow
through touching each other
But Shakespeare is complete
he loves himself
totally content and realised
not wanting to be anything but
a cat
his whiskers
demand respect
so profound like the princely
plume of the peacock
he is armed with the grandeur
of his bow-like back
strenght and flexibility
on four padded paws
at any minute could draw blood
but Shakespeare is a man of peace
he purrs to reward us
when we find moments of peace
we slow down and enjoy life
for just a while
And he scowls at us
looks away
when we begin our next race
back to
cleaning
fighting
self-improving
if he watches, he watches with disdain
wishing we would just settle back down
pet him
or leave him alone
he steals my chair when i get up
reminding me
if i just stay
he might give me the pleasure
of sitting on my lap for a small time
Entering his house
I can't convince him to come to me
I guess too much chaos of the world
still clings to me
he eludes me
until i am calm enough for his liking
I want to learn from this
divine feline
