First off, having Mommy Hera and Daddy Zeus, the heads of the Greek God Pantheon helps. My immortality and god-hood helps as well. Them dubbing me the God of War, too.

And if you're asking for an account of my claims, the numerous wars I helped to stir and fight either personally or through those that worshiped me throughout history on my home.

So about half of it was your lineage and how you were born or created or whatnot, and one quarter due to stuff you did, and another quarter due to people copying what you did.

I could have simply replied with 'Let me show you'. That would have been fun. Non believing mortals are like black sheep that need to be sacrificed and their hearts ripped out of their chest to consume.

Really, though, I understand. You mortals rule everything. How dare someone claim to be a god. He must be insane!

If you mean mortal as in 'human', that really doesn't apply to me. I never said you were insane anyway. I was only curious to find out what makes a human 'god' a god, so to speak.
