[Today her portal's camera is pointed at this. Since she strung it together, she has hung a few more necklaces and charms from it, they turn and glitter faintly in the sunlight coming in from the window. Nails stick crookedly from the wooden mount, but more noticeable are the sigils scratched into the surface ( Read more... )

[She doesn't use such things personally but she recognises them as something to do with magic and again, library around this city? It would be fantastic but she taps her lip in thought.]

Do you need help with something?

[The camera lingers on what is vexing Eden for a moment longer before she turns her portal around to face her.]

I don't know.

Those things behind you [she indicates to them by pointing a finger to the screen] are they wards or imbued with magic?

[She nods quietly.]

I wanted it to eat the nightmares, but I have never done such a thing.

Eat the nightmares? Are they to keep things out? Because I could try to add to them, either with scáth or cosaint.

It doesn't work at home either... but I thought the dreams might listen better here.

Dreams don't ever listen until you wake up and even then, they like to stick around.

[She nods, accepts that without much emotion.]

The skull seemed big enough to catch them.

I've honestly never heard of using skulls for them - it was more dreamcatchers. The spaces let the good dreams slip through but caught the bad ones.

[She pauses and sighs, glancing down at each wrist in turn and the familiar shapes of her sealed spells.]

I suppose some of it has to depend on where you think your dreams really come from. If it's all in the mind or if some of it is external, something we can't ever fully grasp and control.

They... come from both places, from inside of me and from the Hill.

[Perhaps if Shirley truly understands blood she will understand that these are nearly the same things.]

Mother fed them to the dirt to make it strong...

[Her eyes are a little large and pleading. Please understand.]

[Her eyebrows draw together because the pieces fit into place but part of her doesn't really want them to and when she looks back at the screen, it's not really possible to hide the concern on her face, something unbidden.

It's very strange to find people she cares about quickly here compared to only having Cassandra and family count at home.]

Eden...what happened to you on the Hill? What did your mother do?

[She shakes her head, reticent.]

Coven is coven...

[Secrets are secrets, and the rites are Morrison.]

[Those words, she understands. How many times had her mother said something to the same effect? The difference being that any hatred is firmly on Shirley's side, her mother only insisting on things remaining the way they should.]

Covens should protect and help one another.

[She is silent for a moment before she forces herself to say,]

We... do. They would not let anything happen to me...

[Nothing Mother did not wish to cause herself.]

But the nightmares say otherwise.

They aren't--

[She purses her lips. The nightmares were... they were not mother's fault, it was her own weakness which had caused it. and then mother had fed them to the Hill and the filth wrapped her up tighter than it ever had before...]
