Scenario 1: accidental video/teneka (early evening)

[The feed opens on a dark, quiet room. The only movement that can be seen is in the mirror on the wall, bright in comparison to the surrounding shadows ( Read more... )

Impossible, perhaps, but here we are.

[He moves his PORTAL, which takes the form of a PHS, so he can see as well as hear her. He studies her face. He might not have expected a reply, but he doesn't display surprise. The only feeling from him is the sadness, though it lessens as he replies, growing used to this new means of communication.]

So we are. I must believe the evidence of my senses for now. This does not have the feeling of an ordinary dream. [He can't believe the alternative, that he is losing his reason, his self, like the others.]

I am Sephiroth, of SOLDIER. [It seems wise to make connections among his fellow captives. In spite of his research, there is much he does not know, and cooperation is a beneficial strategy.]

We can only react to what is before us. It is real enough, until it changes.

[They moved through many different worlds, all throughout their lives, but when the shifts were subtle one did not notice. Anna had been dragged through dangerous upheavals. She noticed.]

Hello, Sephiroth. I do not know what SOLDIER is, but my name is Anna.

Precisely. If we doubted our senses, what then would we do?

SOLDIER is a military organization, though perhaps that matters little here, as I am without my army. [At the moment, he does not know exactly how to feel about his army, about SOLDIER. Regardless, he will do his duty.] It is a pleasure to meet you, Anna. What do you make of this place we find ourselves in, other than the fact that we are here?

[She likes this sort of calm attitude.]

It is strange and unpredictable. But we are not alone in the need to cope with it.

[Even if Anna didn't really take advantage of the others around her.]

Strange and unpredictable I have experience with. [What is war, if not that? Not to mention the other things he has experienced in his lifetime.

Sephiroth himself is not someone who asks for or needs help. Yet he does have some interest in others.] Is there anything I might do to assist the others? Has some organization been formed among our numbers? [That is one thing he's found little to no information concerning.]

We are all in contact, by these little communicators. I believe there is some organization amongst the others, but it seems there is little we can to defy our current positions.

[She hadn't really looked, true, but the others had and yet they were still here.]

I have been reading some of the information on the network concerning this place and its rules and customs.

So others have tried to find an escape? This bears all the hallmarks of an experiment. Scientists, closed environment, exposure to various stimuli.

[He's not sure if he's troubled by this or feels resigned. Neither feeling should be his first reaction. He should feel motivated to discover a means of escape, to organize.] I understand that somehow, we are still present in our own worlds as well, as this mirror shows? [He can see Modeoheim clearly, and he is clearly in it, giving orders as he conducts the investigation. Part of him is uncharacteristically glad to be out of that cold.]

[She gives him a really horrified look at the suggestion that this is an experiment. It freezes her, really, because it was the sort of thought she would have otherwise avoided allowing into her head.]

I have distressed you. My apologies.

I might be mistaken. I have no proof to support that hypothesis, and there is no reason to believe that is the case. I speak only from my own experience. [He himself was--is--an experiment, and now he sees that Angeal and Genesis were too. His friends. Why would this not, then, be yet another experiment, another lab with tests and puzzles? Yet he does not wish to trouble her.]

I...

[She's having trouble concentrating, there's a gut wrenching panic pulling violently at her reason.]

We... we all... think of it, in our own way.

That is true, but as you have said, we are not alone here. Not alone in our need, and not without assistance from others.

Can I assist you? [He has witnessed many different kinds of mental distress, on the battlefield and off. He is no stranger to what he sees and feels via his PORTAL. Even though he himself has only just arrived, he doesn't hesitate to offer his help. A person in need is something he can focus on, other than his own distress. He has never experienced real grief before.]

[She just gives the man a startled look.]

No.

[She doesn't need help. She has survived worse than a few shocks, hasn't she?]

I am fine.

Very well. [He accepts this, not one to press, and he's unselfconscious about his offer. He is trained to assist. He gives her another subject to focus on.]

What is it that one does here, in Promenade? How do you spend your time?

...I try the restaurants.

[Perhaps she was not the best person to ask about what to do. She was so used to wandering. Beyond the necessities of survival, of which there were incredibly few in a place like this, there wasn't much.]

There are several libraries, I visit them. I think... most of us spend time, with each other, to while away the days.

[She leaves out how much time she spends staring at pictures of Lucie.]

[Spend time with each other. In all his life, he had made but two close friends, and they were gone. Now it is his turn to feel pain, though it is muted.]

Are there many worthwhile restaurants here? [He is not sure if he'll visit them, but he'll ask, politely. It's not that he doesn't appreciate good food, but he can't bring himself to care at the moment. Books are another matter.]

I am fond of reading, myself. Can you tell me where these libraries are, Anna? [Though this was not what he'd had in mind, either.] I was hoping there would be some useful occupation I might engage in.
