[The PORTAL has obviously decided that Naoto has gone long enough without using it and has taken matters into its own hands (wiring?). Thus, it clicks on to show her sat at a desk, pouring over books and paperwork. She fails to notice that it's switched itself on; she seems absorbed in what she's reading, occasionally pausing to note things down.

[Oh wow, sudden voice in her head! She looks up with a start, looking around as though trying to work out where that voice came from. Especially being as it was night and thus past the time when anyone should be able to speak at all.]

[She frowns a little, only noticing her PORTAL's active when she sees an unfamiliar face. A flash of something between anger and panic shoots through her thoughts]

[Another voice? There's a sigh in Naoto's thoughts as she picks up the PORTAL]

No...I was rather hoping to avoid using these devices as much as possible. Apparently the machine has other ideas.

They often turn on by themselves. I think it's hard to completely avoid using them here.

Hmm. And yet the very fact that they can do so leaves me rather less inclined to use them at all. I shall have to be more careful with where I leave it in future.

[The image of a person with a book...inside a book, since that's the guise his PORTAL has taken, now that he's aware that is what it is, and it's still rather hard to digest...is something that easily draws his attention.

He fights with whether or not to say anything at all, given how focused this person appears to be, but the loneliness makes him finally 'talk']

There is much I have learned since arriving here. It is only now I have really been able to compile it all so that I might consider my course of action.
