[ When the PORTAL turns on, it should be fairly clear that the room has already been... decorated. There are books everywhere, as well as pieces of art from all sorts of eras (though leaning toward an Ancient Egyptian theme), a gold balance, both a quill and a ball, and a statue of an ibis. The individual holding the PORTAL is holding it out, ( Read more... )

It was far too bare before. Nothing at all to read.

I am more surprised there are books you haven't yet read.

I wouldn't say that. There's nothing wrong with rereading, though.

[ He laughs. ] They do seem to enjoy being fairly obvious.

But no -- it was your aura.

Seems most of us are from some version of Earth, so I'd say a large majority have got at least something resembling Egypt knocking about.

Mmm, that is good to hear. I wonder if any of them remember...

That would depend. We've got people being brought from different points in time, but Egypt's got a long history, so they might know without necessarily remembering.

That can sometimes be enough. Much has been forgotten.

[She isn't really fond of the Egyptian gods. They were the reason she had the Commandments made and the first being that there would be no other gods before her. Yet she can't resist trying to have a civilized conversation at least once.]

I've heard of it.

[ Thoth's feelings on Her are a bit more complicated. He knows of the power She holds, has seen it in action (could feel it coming). Outside of the polytheism that she detests, however, some of his believers believe that he created the world -- and so, in some ways, he has. Much of his power comes from what is believed, after all.

Nevertheless, he gives her a slight smile and picks up his quill to respond in the same manner She has. ]

I would hope so. You have more followers there than I do, these days.

[There was once a time when She would have had horrible things done upon seeing him, such as when She sent the plagues to his land but She is trying to be a kinder and more forgiving God. Besides it's not like this place is where either of them belong so She might as well attempt to get along with the other gods hanging around.

So She's returning his smile with one of Her own.]

Some of your followers have spread across the Earth. Humans certainly have more religions then they once did.

[ Times change. They change, though they are supposed to be timeless. ]

They do. You have your numerous denominations, and I have the old, the revival, and those who may follow me but not any of my kin.

But then, they always have had a hard time getting along with each other.

Have you been to Egypt, then?

Oh yes. I've done some work there.
