[Tallis isn't bothering to face his PORTAL, and at first it doesn't seem as if he even realizes it's on. He's sitting at his desk, thoroughly absorbed in writing in the notebook in front of him. His free arm is positioned to keep the contents of the book from being seen on the feed. When he finally does speak, his attention is still focused on his writing.]
It seems there's been a wave of newcomers. I've failed to greet a grand majority of you, however. Perhaps that makes me a rude citizen. [His face is solemn, but his tone is light, almost cheery - it's hard to tell if he's being serious or if he doesn't really care.] But you're all here now, and I assume it's pointless for me to state here the facts that you're probably already aware of.
That's not the purpose of this, however. If you'll humor me for a few moments, city, I have a question for you.
[He pauses, chewing on the end of his pen for a few moments, his gaze never moving from his notebook.]
I'm aware you all desire to return home, and I'm sure many of you have good reason to. I'm not going to argue with you on that point, nor am I going to argue with you on whether or not it was right or wrong to be brought here.
[At this point he closes the book and finally faces his PORTAL.]
This city is different than any of our homes, I'm sure. But is it for better or worse? You've been given the chance to meet new friends - close ones, in many cases - who I'm sure you'd prefer not to part with. You're given the ability to dream up anything you wish - a perk I doubt any of your worlds have. You're placed in a setting where you are maybe even given opportunities that would have been impossible in your home world. And, to top it off, for many of us there are even places from our worlds that are important to us.
To come to my point, I am simply wondering how many of you feel that your home is more suited to your liking than the city.
