[ The PORTAL turns on, video and all, to reveal a man with dark hair and glasses, his nose and mouth covered by a surgical mask. If any of the older residents are particularly good with faces, they’re likely to notice the striking resemblance between the man on the feed and one Heda Genero. They aren’t related, of course; it’s just another mystery

[The man's resemblance to Genero instantly sets off alarm bells in Elijah's head, but...well, that could be a coincidence, couldn't it? Whether it is or not, he'd better tread carefully.]

The hell you got a horse in there for? [Well. A little carefully, at least.]

If I know why, I wouldn't have asked for someone to explain its presence to me.

[His tone does nothing to ease any suspicion in Elijah's mind that Genero got knocked on the head and suffered some acute identity confusion. Still, he supposes it would be best to go along with it for now.]

Well, I hear tell of people bringin' their pets an' such along with 'em when they get stuck here... You sure you ain't never seen that animal afore?

I may have, according to the emblem on its saddle -- it's a police horse. It certainly isn't mine, however.

A police horse. [Well, that certainly got his attention.]

Were you in some kinda trouble with the law, mister?

[canhasfear]

[ Yes. ] It's doctor. And no, I was not -- I had called the police because a dangerous fugitive had broken into my place of work and was trying to disrupt things.

[feycarved]

My apologies, doctor. [Elijah's sincere about that, even if he is skeptic of everything else.] So this police officer came an' answered your call...on horseback.

[canhasfear]

Several police officers came, none on horseback, and the fugitive in question left in a car that might as well have been a tank. There was a chase.

Ah-huh.

I hope you'll forgive me for not bein' too convinced of that, doctor.

[canhasfear]

If you'd like to believe that I'm a liar, you may as well just say it.

[feycarved]

[Elijah pauses for a moment, then gives a small shrug.] Ain't sure I got any business believin' that when all I got to go on is one story that ain't too plausible.

Now, I'm guessin' you're new 'round these parts.

[canhasfear]

From what I've heard of this city so far, there is a great deal that isn't plausible.

Yes.

Exactly.

That bein' the case, you sure seem to catch on mighty quick.

[canhasfear]

I'm a doctor of the mind. I certainly hope so.

[feycarved]

Really, now. [That doesn't sound too far out of Genero's league, does it? Then again...] An' you got a name other'n just doctor, I assume?
