[Well. He certainly hadn't believed there to be an afterlife, and even it he had, he wouldn't have expected to end up in some semblance of heaven. In any case, he isn't sure what to make of this new place. He's more than positive that he had been killed... there was no doubt of that. So, Andrew Ryan now finds himself in a strange city with no ( Read more... )

What do you wonder, love?

[Suddenly, a voice. And it isn't his own. It goes without saying that he's startled.]

Who are you?

Aphrodite, of course. Who are you?

[Aphrodite. Immediately, Steinman's face flashes across his mind.]

You mean to say, the Greek goddess?

Is something the matter, ...other than your recent relocation?

Without a doubt. But, there isn't much that I'd be willing to discuss with complete strangers.

Mm, I understand, but we don't necessarily have to be complete strangers.

Not necessarily, no.

Does anyone really expect appearing in a new world?

[What is this text you speak of.]

... I suppose not.

[Tallis isn't fond of the whole SHOVING MY THOUGHTS INTO YOUR BRAINS thing yet.]

What were you thinking about?

[Unfortunately, Andrew Ryan is from the late 50s, and has no concept of texting whatsoever. He peers at the message, but still hasn't quite grasped the responding part, and once again speaks with his thoughts.]

You can't hear it, like the others? All the better...

[That voice. Jack doesn't think he could ever forget it, not after every time he's heard it-accusing him of trying to destroy his city, taunting his efforts before murdering Atlas's family, coldly informing Julie Langford of her impending death... No, he could never forget it, but why is he hearing it now?

That voice-

When he realizes that he's hearing it from the PORTAL, however, and not his own memory, understanding slowly comes to him. He doesn't think to question why Andrew Ryan is here; all that matters is that he is here, and that means...]

Where are you? [Even in his mind, Jack's voice shakes as he addresses the king of Rapture.]

[Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for Jack, those three words are not enough to clue Ryan in to his identity. Though he spent his last living moments staring down the man, his murderer is the last person he expects, or wants, to see here. Besides Fontaine, maybe. So, there isn't recognition in his thoughts.]

I hoped you could tell me.

[He has to take a moment to calm himself; is it really possible that Ryan doesn't recognize him? If that's the case, then he has to act even more carefully, so as not to to give himself away... He takes a deep breath, trying to clear his thoughts of all but the pounding purpose at the back of his mind.]

This city is called Promenade.

Where are you...exactly?

Promenade. Ridiculous. I've already told the others that-...

[He sighs.] I couldn't say for sure. A small room, in a house, perhaps. It seems too simple to be a hotel.

The best kind of expected is the unexpected, darling~ There will be much more to wonder later.

[He's developing a headache already.]

Kindly explain yourself. I don't have the patience for this right now.
