Ok so while everyone else is freaking out about applying to ivy leagues early and finishing all their comp lit stuff and understanding AP Physics and doing a million things and whatnot...

I must say i am having a very relaxing and somewhat stress-free senior year thus far. My classes kick ASS-Stats is easy, Williams is awesome, Biotech is frickin COOL, Music Theory is not too bad and will probably be very beneficial, And Senior Writing with Neagley is like totally kick-ass. Oh and band is just...band.

Although i do have a lot of things going through my mind about the whole college issue.

So as of now I don't have a list set in stone of where i'm applying. I do know I am going to major in classical saxophone performance. Fortunately this is a somewhat specific thing, so i don't have as much to decide about. Here are my thoughts on some of the schools i'm looking into (this is mainly so i can get all of my thoughts into text-it's becoming a lot to remember. Also I could easily be very wrong about some of my thoughts about these schools. Correct me if necessary.)-

UCLA-I visited the campus, and it's amazing. I really liked it there, and it's somewhat close to home and has decent weather. They have a large music department, and easily the best music department of the UC's. Their saxophone professor is somewhat well known, but he also teaches at other schools in the area. I need to email him and find out how large the sax studio is, and how often he's there...the wind ensemble is also good, and its director, who i had at all-state, i really liked.

Arizona State-Also, not TOO far away. From what i've and from what my teacher tells me, they have one of the better music departments on the west coast. Their saxophone faculty is good, as is the wind ensemble. The only problem i have is that the academics are probably of less quality than a lot of other west coast schools...even though the music may be good.

And then there's a lot i'm still not sure about applying to-

Northwestern-The saxophone teacher is like...the saxophone teacher. I'd be studying with possibly one of the greatest saxophone instructors in the country. Musically it would probably be amazing. However it is really far away, and the climate would be drastically different from here. Not to mention it's just a littttle bit pricey. Also, i amy be wrong but i assume the environment would be very different-everyone would be motivated, and there for a reason.

Indiana University-Good saxophone program, faculty, etc. But it is a HUGE music school, and i might not ever be able to get into anything or study very much with the actual faculty. Also i've heard it's in the middle of NOWHERE.

Peabody Conservatory- I have a recording of the saxophone teacher, and it seriously makes me want to go there (I have recordings of almost all these teachers, but i just recently got this one). But it's reallly far away, probably expensive. I'm still not sure if i want to go to a conservatory-What if i (for some strange, unexpected reason) change my mind and want to study something else? I assume i would pretty much be studying music and practicing. The other academics would be limited. But i've also been warned that even if it's not a conservatory, this can be true of schools with big established schools of music.

That's all for now. I'm probably applying to some CSUs as backups.

A lot of this is just general decisions i have to make.

I think with all this, college, practicing for the winter concert, practicing for college auditions, getting an alto, etc., i made a very good decision about not rowing this year...
