At this point I am obliged to pimp out the following stories and RPG resources:

> Legend of the Five Rings, seriously one of the BEST RPGs out there and the idea behind Japanese swords-and-sorcery goodness. Much of the imagery here can be traced to something in those books. It's an entire universe to explore. Great system, too.

> Usagi Yojimbo, believe it or not. The stories are great and the characters are cute and very real.

> Blade of the Immortal, although the magic tends to be more functional/practical than it is spectacular. I particularly recommend the Dreamsong arc, the one that introduces the kickass female fighter Makie.

Seriously, the imagery in this fic, the idea of the cast of Inception in feudal Japan dress (Doroboshi lazily shrugging on his kimono to cover the fantastical phoenix on his back can NEVER be NOT HOT) is really spectacular.
