The thing is, Holmes and Watson are immensely useful: the one with the appallingly sharp mind and the other with the steady hands. The kills become easier. A hunt he'd thought would take him years is now being compressed down to a timetable of weeks.

They are useful, Erik thinks, and perhaps he might be able to accept some of Watson's sympathy and some of Holmes's acerbic commentaries - but he's looking forward to getting well away from them, soon, except.

He's about to say a brusque goodbye in Paris-Gare de Lyon when a voice calls over the intercom. "Attention passenger Doctor John Watson, you are wanted at the main ticketing offices, please pick up your message."
