getting to know me...

Alright, so I was born in the Chicago area August 25, 1982 (making me 27 years old!), but my parents moved to Seattle when I was one, so that's where I was raised. Seattle is most definitely "home". I miss it like crazy.

I met my husband for the first time Summer 2001. I was, and still am friends with his little sister. We went on our first date May (or was it April?) 2002 when he asked me to be his date for a big fancy military ball at his school (Air Force Academy). He flew me from Seattle to Colorado Springs, and we had the most wonderful weekend. We started "dating" that weekend. :)

I finished up college at the University of Washington in December 2003. Having done long distance for 1.5 years, Chris and I were ready to see each other every day. I moved out to Ohio where Chris was stationed at the time. October 2004 we get engaged, and July 2005 we got married in Seattle! After the wedding, I joined Chris in England where he was stationed for the Air Force.

May 2008, we moved to Odenton, Maryland where we currently live.

I looove dancing. I took dance lessons when I was younger, and a few dance classes in college for fun. I also took a dance class at the gym while I lived in England. Someday, I'd like to sign up for another dance class.

I also love photography. I've done a few weddings and portraits. LOVE IT. But don't really have time for it anymore. At least I paid off my fancy camera and lenses (and then some) with photography jobs :).

Favorite tv shows: Glee, House, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Survivor, American Idol, Parenthood, any dancing reality tv show, and the Amazing Race.

I also have my MA in Elementary Education. However, I wont be using it for a few years because I plan to stay home with my beautiful kids.

Speaking of kids, Emily was born Nov 4, 2008 and Ethan was born Sept 7, 2010. Being a mom has been the most rewarding thing I've ever done. It's harder than I thought it would be, and more fulfilling than I every imagined it would be. I'm fortunate enough to be able to stay home with them.

Job wise, through my last 2 years of college, I worked as the assistant director at a school aged daycare in a private catholic school. I loved the job. When I moved to Ohio, I got a job teaching computer classes to senior citizens. I loved that job as well, and realized that I really do want to be a teacher in an elementary school. That's what motivated me to go back and get my Master's in Elementary Education. While working on my Master's, I substitute taught at an elementary school on a military base in England (where we were stationed at the time).

Traveling is a serious passion of mine. While living in England for 3 years, I was able to see so many awesome things (and places). I miss Europe like crazy, but am happy to be back in the states, a little closer to friends and family. I have called Washington, Ohio, Maryland, England, Australia and South Africa "home". We're currently living in Australia for 6 months for the hubby's work.

I have the bestest friends ever in the Seattle area (although some of them have moved away). I miss them like crazy.

I spent a summer (2002) in South Africa volunteering in a variety of community and church organizations. It was a very difficult experience for me, emotionally, but also one of the most rewarding. The experience impacted my life in ways I'm still learning about.

Oh, and I hate doing laundry and vacuuming....but vacuuming has gotten a little more fun since getting a new fancy vacuum.

I love reading! But lately have been consumed by parenting books. I look forward to a time when I feel I know enough about parenting to read something else :).

alright, that's a somewhat schizophrenic summary of me and the things important to me...:)

Oh, and you can check out my "getting to know me" tag to learn a little more. Most posts are friends only.
