true story
Ok so for those of you who don't know I work for the human rights campaign which is a civil rights group for the lgbtq community. We have just one gay guy that works with us and well he is really gay but also the nicest and sweetest person ever. I preface this before the story because I know he is not the type to pick fights or be a dick
So on a day to day basis I deal with a lot of haters and get called some horrible things(surprisingly not as much as when I worked for Greenpeace) but well it's something that needs to be done and thats why I do it. So today a horrible thing happened to my co worker he was in front of the New Leaf in felton (which is south of santa cruz for those of you who don't know) and some fucking bigot just walks up and punches my co-worker in the face and then takes off running simply because my co-worker is gay.
By the time I got to the site (i was like 5 mins away in scotts valley) the cops and ambulance was already there and well there was blood everywhere and my co-worker has a broken nose and i think he's front tooth got knocked out.
It fucking pissed me off that there are people in the world who just commit random acts of violence for the hell of it. fuck dude it made the entire crappy day I was having (bouncing from sites, my boss being a bitch, ect) entirely worth it. We can't let people just get away with shit like that, it's not right and it's not fair. fuck. This is why we need shit like hate crime legislation and other shit, I don't care if you don't think it's OK to be gay or whatever people are still people and they shouldn't have to worry that someone is going to kick their ass simply for whatever. That's my soapbox for the day.
