Goodbye to Dale Greer.

Jul 31, 2010 23:58

I don't know how much I wrote earlier in the week about Dale Greer's passing...but he passed a few days ago after a 2 year struggle with cancer. He was 70 this past March.
dale's public service was today... one of my other profs at morehead has been posting pictures of the pictures and stuff at the service... This is my favorite:

Just goes to show you what kind of guy he was. lol.

He had met so many people during his life... He knew Muhammad Ali personally, worked with Nick Clooney in Lexington and knew George as a little kid...One of his favorite stories to tell was about how he would tell little George Timothy that he was so pretty he would have to grow up and be a movie star. Which...y'know how that turned out lol!

During the last two years of his life, he'd written FOUR books. I am going to have to get copies.

I am SO grateful that Doc Biel has put forth the time to put all of these up on facebook so people who live far out can see them. I would love to have been up there...but we just made the trip two weeks ago when Paul passed. Sigh. Plus Brian CANNOT get tomorrow off (he checked) and there was no time available yesterday either so we'd have driven up and back today WITH Kiernan and that's just too much on her. :(

Just thank you Dale. Thank you so much for all that you taught us. Not just me, not just Brian...but the thousands of lives at MSU that you touched, the lives you touched in Vietnam, at WAVE in Louisville, and even at the little ole podunk radio station you started at in Paris. Thank you so much for living your live with the vigor and genuine happiness you have. I'll miss you, buddy.

Love,
Jasmine
