One of the many reasons I love tax is herein revealed...
As upset as I was feeling tonight, a quote from my tax casebook has made me feel much better, even giddy:
"But if the additional expense arises because the need to carry tools requires a more expensive mode of travel than the taxpayer otherwise would have used, it is not, in the Service's view, deductible. Thus, a musician who must carry a tuba to work cannot deduct the cost of taking a taxi rather than a bus, but an extra charge by the cab company for carrying the tuba is deductible. The courts have been less strict."
