Summer

The Public Theatre in New York called me to audition for their twelve week “Shakespeare Lab.” This is pretty much the coolest thing that has ever happened to me. They have tons of applicants and only allow a few to audition for 16-20 spots, I think I might be the only out of state kid too, because when I called them back they were like can you be here on Tuesday at 12? Ha. I wish, but then she was like “oh, you’re the Arizona kid.” So they said they were interested in me and they are going to let me tape three monologues instead of two and set up a phone interview. I really want to get this, they train you to be in their company which would be incredible. I think Kevin Kline is teaching a class, and it just something I really want to be a part of, Shakespeare in the Park is something I watched every summer as a kid and I always told myself I wanted to do it.

Here’s the problem. 1) I got to do the monologues today and the only Shakespeare ones I have are my Hamlet piece and a Mercutio speech. They are really big contrasts I feel but terribly famous, my contemporary is from Take Me Out which is a fantastic play. 2) Since the audition is tape I am already at a huge disadvantage I hate the way taped auditions look, but oh well. 3) It’s 5000 dollars just for the school…I could live there with my uncle, but that means I couldn’t work, and I’m going to have two leases, and I still haven’t found a damn sublease. I’m not going to worry about it though, I’m goint to do this one step at a time.
