To the lady working in the couch department: oh, damn, I am so sorry.  I did that thing that's so awful when my customers do it -- reacting like a pouty little child when you explained that what I wanted was not available.  I was kind of rude.  I'm just so emotionally invested in getting my poor old discontinued couch recovered.

To the dude who asked me a laundry question in the textiles department: were you macking on me?  It's fine if you were, I just have a tin ear for that sort of thing.  I'm a little out of it.

To everyone I overheard arguing bitterly with their family members: thanks for the free show.
