i'm ready to help + willing anytime :)
so here's what we could do... since i don't make layouts, i only tweak them, i have a BUNCH stored up in my memories under layouts. ok.... i'll ask this question, but don't be offended if you know the answer, it's just that i sucked at understanding livejournal when i first joined... it really frustrated me. the thing you have to do is just keep going with it. join communities you like. stuff like that :) anyway.... my question was, do you know how to view my memories? just go to my profile --> then to my memories --> then under layouts. i've saved many posts of people posting their layouts they've built and their codes. the layout i'm using right now came from this post: http://community.livejournal.com/mintyapple/62532.html so CLEARLY i've changed quite a bit of that layout... ust the littlew colours and small details. you have to make sure the layout maker is OK with you changing stuff, and you always have to credit them. i credit my layout maker in my profile. stop me if i'm just saying stupid stuff now that you already know hahahahaha!
anyways... um.... here's your homework ;) browse through my memories layouts pages and look at all of them. usually you can click on the small layout pictures and view a bigger image, or you can sometimes click on a link to a live preview of the layout if it's offered.
post back with the links to the layouts you like most. (white layouts are clean and in style)
did any of this help? i'll check back soon... once you've seen some layouts you sort of or almost like, then we can figure out your questions, and i can totally show you perhaps how to figure out how to change little details like the background... stuff like that to make it prettier. if you wanted i could make a nice header for you too?

omgosh!!! you are so my favorite person today!!! first of all, you could never offend me, because right now, i bow down to your greatness and I am soooo greatful for your help!
