SO There’s an amazing duo of fics called Communication and Numbered by bookgoddess15. Morgan/Reid (Criminal Minds) amazingness which I can no longer find to link here :-(
BUT, my point, the crux of these fics is that the boys start counting the amount of times they say ‘I Love You’ to each other, to the point that they just say the number to each other - a great way to express their love that only makes sense to them (and that they can say in public without it being embarrassing/mushy etc)
AND, I kind of want to see this in my other OTPS!
As they are my obsessions at, I keep imagining it in Gordlock and/or Coldwave the most, but it would likely work in any fandom tbh, and I’m hoping someone takes it up.
could be established relationship …..
One of them just says ILY and the other comments something like ‘I can count on 1 hand the amount of people who have said that to me and meant it’ and the other says something like ‘This may be the xxth (lets say 8th, as an example) time I’ve said it to you, but I always feel it’ and then the other just says 9, the other replies 10 and then thats it. A few snippets maybe of them doing usual day to day stuff and doing the numbers thing at the same time (eg if its gordlock they could be at the precinct and Harvey could pat Jim’s shoulder as he passes and mutter ‘19′ and Jim just absently call ‘20!’ back at him)
OR it could be a realisation fic;
for example Jim’s fallen asleep on the sofa in his office, Harvey finds him, puts a blanket over him, runs a hand through Jim’s hair and whispers ‘God, how I love you Jim Gordon’ and then goes white when Jim freezes and opens his eyes all wide-eyed in shock. Harvey starts stammering and Jim stops with a hand on his and says ‘I can count on 1 hand the amount of people who have said that to me and meant it’…..
I really do think it would work well as Coldwave too though!
