Right, I’ve decided to try and keep a weekly little bit of lj space to share my opinions and have a little rant about this years XF.
Alisha
I never liked this girl, right from boot camp. Never thought she was good enough to get to this stage, and was totally unsurprised when she was in the bottom 2 last week. This week? I just bemoaned the fact that she ruined such a great song! And she looked ridiculous! Who on EARTH picks their clothes?! That shade of pink looked awful on her, and that bow in her hair looked ridiculous!
Say a Little Prayer is one of my v fav songs; you really need some SOUL to sing it - something all she could do is ATTEMPT and v poorly imitate. She has no stage presence, and too many off-notes for me to let her get away with. My least fav performance of the night.
Andy
Gutsy. I mean, Simon is right, he does have SERIOUS puppy dog eyes, but he does have a voice to back this up. And singing Staying Alive on your own? Took guts. And I think he did it well - and his dancing! I think even he was surprised.
Beverly
Is really making her way through the black divas! Aretha and then Whitney? I sing this song myself, and I can tell you, I have Nothing is NOT easy to sing. They had to lower it for her a little, and she did have a few bum notes, but it was overall a great performance.
Daniel
A ridiculous song choice; Build Me Up Buttercup. I mean, a great song, but a really bizarre choice for him. He’s a great looking guy with a real story and I really feel for him. I remember him from his first audition and we KNOW he has a great voice. He performed to the best of his ability - some GREAT dancing, the spins! However, having to dance did not help his actual singing, but I thought his singing was pretty gosh darn good!
Emily
I loved this girl right from the first audition; only a little girl still at 14, she was the only girl Sharon picked that I totally agreed with. Considering she sang Britney (although I’m Not A Girl is a song of hers that I actually like) I thought she did pretty good. I’m sure she can do better, but she had improved markedly from last week. She looked great though - I want that outfit!
Futureproof
Outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. Looked great (although the camp one should have lost the cardi), and sang absolutely fabulously!! Great song choice. The boys really did it justice. They’re a group that’s been thrown together for this show, and they are great together. (Unlike their female equivalent)
Hope
Right, I have to admit that these weren’t my fav; out of the 2 girl groups Simon had at boot camp, I preferred the other group. HOWEVER, last week, the youngest girl in Hope, Phoebe, I thought was great. THIS WEEK; omg! Wtf happened?! I mean, firstly, Moulin Rouge? Yes, they were MEANT to look like hookers, but they looked awful! DESperately out of tune (especially Phoebe). I generally thought it was a terrible start.
For a change, the judges all seemed to disagree. They all gave compliments, but my personal opinion was a big thumbs down. Out of tune, timing went a bit, just generally bad.
Leon
I find him cute; I quite liked his performance last week, which was a swing version of a Beatles song. However, I’ve been waiting for the Ray Quinn comparison; it has not occurred, but the Buble comparison was inevitable with this week’s song; Home. I mean, with Westlife’s version out tomorrow, it was iffy. But I think he did ok. He has a vulnerability and frailty which is gonna win him votes. But it was far from a memorable performance. Good enough to keep him out of the bottom 2 this week though.
Niki
OMG so gosh darn brilliant! It’s a big song, and she had the added pressure of actually having to sing in front of the original artist; Celine Dion herself! She did an absolutely stunning performance, she looked great and sang FABulously!!
Rhydian
Outstanding. His eyes terrify me; he is, as Simon says ‘barking mad’. But as the Phantom, he rocked. He really is in a league of his own. I mean, the fact that Lord Webber rearranged the duet into a solo especially for him? That says it all.
Same Difference
Perfect song choice. HSM is perfect for this cheesy duo! I would have loved to hear them sing What I’ve been Looking For, but I think they did a great rendition of Breaking Free; and the dance routine worked to.
YES! I was kinda shocked that the judges chose Daniel to go over Alisha, but several other people I spoke to really thought Daniel didn’t perform well…but I really think Alisha was pretty rubbish!
