(no subject)
I had a pretty great weekend. Kevin, Chris and Katie came up to visit me. I took them out to Crooks and the place was like i'd never seen it before, it was packed, they were playing country and people were line dancing! Amazing! usually its a giant disappointment with 1 or 2 old cowboys and a ton of frat boys. the frat boys might get up and grind on some girl after last call. but not on friday. it totally met the expectations of a small town/country bar. Saturday we toured campus and went to Pamida where I discovered an untapped resource of Dad's Rootbeer. I thought they stopped making that stuff! And then Cass came over with some boxed wine and sandwich material and we feasted and polished off the box by 9pm. Then we went to the Fireman's Ball at the Eagles Club for about an hour or so... then back home for Arrested Development and more beer. Sunday morning I'm awoken by pounding on the front door. It's Cass shouting and yelling about some "horrible injstice" that has befallen her. She couldn't find her car (annie had taken it), she lost her purse, she woke up at a guy's house (who she knew, but he's an ass)he took her to my house and told her good luck. She didn't remember the night at all. I took her to annies house to get her things. Then a few hours later Annie is pounding on my door, she is much less dramatic than cass but still needs an update as to what happened to her last night. Wow. These are my friends in crookston...It was nice to have my "cities friends" up for a visit so I could show them my town. The weather cooperated the whole time too. I do miss being back in the cities.
Mom's surgery went well. and the results are in. she has stage 1 breast cancer but it was fast growing. They got it all. they're discussing treatment options this week. The cancer was hormone responsive so that is good and it means she might need less drastic treatment. Right now they think she'll potentially need chemo and hormones, but probably not radiation.
I'm really grateful to the people who have been calling reguarly to check up on how everything is going. It's good for me to talk about it and I like knowing there are people who care and I also like the fact that most of the time we end up talking about something else for a while. the distraction is good too.
My internship with the vet fell through. I got a call from him saying that he was only going to take on one assistant this summer and it was not me. Its hard not to take it personally since my interview was a full day of helping him out. I cant help but wonder if i did/said something wrong...
I applied for my old zoo job back, but I'm not sure if the application went through or not. Plus they are only hiring 2 student workers this summer, granted I would have been there the longest of anyone reapplying (minus one guy, Greg) but I would be tied with one of the guys that worked last season. But, I may not have even applied, I dont know! So, i've been frantically searching for other jobs and I'm going out today to buy resume paper (can you believe they don't sell it at the campus bookstore?!).
I bring Tucker home in 2 weeks. Jayme wants me to drive back to Alaska with her and as much fun as it would be, I don't have a job yet and I dont think i can afford to pay for a plane ticket. she said I could use the money she is giving me for vet/farrier costs to pay for a plane ticket and by the time he needs any of that i would have made some money, but I don't know if i'm getting a job, or if it will pay enough. Plus, its looking like I'll have to move my brother back home sans help from the parents (because of the stuff mom has going on...) so I wouldn't be able to leave here the day she wants to leave. Plus I'd have to arrange for someone to take care of the rats...
There is just so much going on right now! I really needed this weekend, it really helped me put all this crap aside and just relax a bit. I've been trying to count my blessings and remember all of the good stuff I have, but it can be hard.
