Through Lines

1. What makes an idea sutible for delivery through 4D media?

2.What does animation do that makes it more effective than other media?

3.How does composition effect the legibility of your piece?

Possible Lesson(s)

With these in mind you could make a project for older elementary-middle school aged children to collaborate on short animation pieces. The class could be based around understanding how our eyes perceive motion. It could include thoughts like
"How many frames do you need to make it have for the motion to look smooth?"

"If X walks though the frame to the right they appear to be going forwards, while moving out to the left looks like back-tracking..."

"How much of a background do you need to make space/ how much do you want?"

Then we could talk about things like,
Why animation?
Why not a drawing?
Why not a play or live action video?

things that might come up would be answers like,
"I don't like talking in front of people"
"I don't wanna be bossy"
"I like drawing"
"equipment is expensive to make a real person fly/ be underwater/ be on location..."
"I like working by my self"

Then we could break into groups of 4-5 people and have them come up with an action to animate, a design for a character, and the execution of the animation.

The successfulness of the piece will be determined by:
creativeness in character design,
how smoothly the animation runs,
and how well it can be read.

ie, the character should remain about the same size, the action should be clear, and the character should be an interesting form...
