so i've finally found a professor who has money to support a graduate student, but as a result of my inabilities to ever be happy/appreciative/satisfied in life, i'm beginning to think that grad school isn't the right path for me.  firstly, i'm concerned that if  (and when) i fail my oral dissertation, the department will not award a masters ( Read more... )

hmmm....

i think you should just do what makes you happy. i agree with jopie that not everything will be a-ok, but i think you already know that what you are doing now is something you don't want to be doing, so it's something you should change.

and, i think...there is something that will make you feel like you're happy without everything being perfect. so i dunno if i think it's all about attitude and adaptation like jopie was saying. if that were the case, it'd be saying you could adapt to what you are doing now.

but i think what you should do is explore and see what you really do want to do with your life. you're lucky enough that you have the chance to do so, and that you already know that you don't want to be doing what you're doing now. make the most of it. go out and figure out what you DO want to do. it'll be a period of trial and error. sometimes, you won't know you don't want to do something until AFTER you do it. but we're still young, we still have time.

go do what you want to do. live at home. find a job that you think you'll love. you may find that it's right for you, or you may move onto new things. but you won't know till you try it.

life is completely your choice. so make the most of it and don't waste it doing something you don't like to be doing. :-)
