In which Ruby tries to prove a point the fun way.

[Set in Last Call for Sin. Cowritten with lil_nellie.]

Nellie had been sitting at the bar near Christopher, watching April serve drinks. She was bored and didn't really want to sit around the bar for another night. She got to her feet and headed for the apartment that rested over the bar, where April lived and where Nellie...well, she was living there for the unforeseen future. She liked the company she was around, especially because Dean hadn't arrived yet. Things were easier without him around being an ass.

She found she got along with April quite well, which she guessed was probably hard not to. She had no problem with the boys, and even found Christopher amusing...in an annoying kind of way. And of course having Ben around was always good. But...she was bored. She felt like she was being cooped up for a storm that wasn't going to hit. They hadn't heard anything from any demons since getting there, including Ruby. Nellie figured this was a good thing...not that she would...mind Ruby dropping in. She rolled her eyes as she went into her room. Okay, maybe not if Ruby weren't so condescending and thought she knew Nellie - when she obviously didn't.

Nellie turned on a CD and flopped back on the bed, closing her eyes for a moment. It felt kind of good having space to breathe.

Ruby was just swinging through and checking up on things. She did that every once in a while, just to make sure that everyone was still in one piece and no one had managed to get themselves possessed lately. She said a quick hello to April and the others, before heading upstairs to check on Nellie. She didn't plan on staying long, just long enough to make sure that the girl was in one piece and not missing a limb or something. She paused in the doorway for a moment, leaning in and crossing her arms in front of her chest before speaking up slightly.

"Hey."

Nellie jumped slightly at the voice and leaned up a bit, opening her eyes to look over at Ruby. "Hey," she replied.

With that acknowledgment, she took that as permission to enter, looking around the room and not at her. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah, fine," Nellie nodded. She leaned back against the headboard and folded her hands against her stomach. "Welcome to the excitin' life of a girl hidin' from demons."

Ruby snorted slightly, as she paced her way over, arms still crossed in front of her chest as she looked down at her. "Just be grateful it's not girl found by demons. That's worse -- trust me."

Nellie looked up at Ruby blankly. "Think I don't know that? My mother was a girl found by demons."

"Yeah, well, humans sometimes have the nice option of thinking 'well, that could never happen to me'," she sighed. "I've seen it more than once."

"I know it could happen to me," she said quietly, moving her gaze elsewhere. "Doesn't stop all'a this from bein' borin'."

"Don't worry. Once this all blows over, you can go back to bouncing around on Daddy's dime. Promise."

She sat up, swinging her legs around to the floor and tugging slightly on her already short skirt. "Hey, if I can, why not?" Her eyes were set, annoyed.

Ruby's eyes slid over the bare legs in front of her, before reaching Nellie's eyes again. Ruby didn't exactly swing a particular way, and she wasn't going to deny that the girl was pretty, but she also knew that that wasn't why she was here. "Because it's a waste of your life. You're not doing anything worth remembering. Worth noticing."

Exactly, was what she thought. She just shrugged. "It works for me."

"You're pathetic," Ruby shook her head. "You get maybe eighty years on this planet, if you're lucky. Then you die, and either you go to Heaven and disappear into oblivion if you're one of those people who are actually pure of heart and have earned it, or you're deemed not worthy and go to Hell, and you get tormented for the rest of eternity and become like me. And you know where the people who do nothing either way? They go to Hell. Because there's nothing worse than someone who just sits there and does nothing."

Nellie got to her feet. "I don't do nothin'! I enjoy myself. I'd rather have fun doin' what I like than....try bein' somethin' people want me to be."

"Yeah, sure, you enjoy yourself, and just sit idly by indulging in sin. You'd probably be one of the girls wailing on the rack because 'oh, boo-hoo, poor me, I didn't do anything wrong!'" Ruby snorted before shaking her head. "Yeah, well -- you didn't do anything right either."

"God! Just...leave me alone," Nellie snapped. "Stop acting like you know me."

"I'm not acting like I know you," Ruby replied with a snap. "I'm just telling you what I know about the way this world works. And really, kid, there are better ways to go to Hell. If you're gonna go down, go down in a blaze of fucking glory so at least you know you've earned it, or shape up and start doing some good. Whichever you want to do, I couldn't care less. Just pick one and get up off your ass." As hot as that ass was.

"I am happy with the way I live my life. I go out, I make friends...I don't get tied down...that's doing something."

"No, it's not. Because the Powers that Be don't give a shit if you're happy. They care about what you do for other people." Ruby squared her shoulders as she stared at her. "People like Dean and Sam? They're on the fast track to happily ever after in the afterlife, because they go out and they save people. You? You just don't care. So why the hell should they."

"No. I don't care. And if I don't care? ..." She caught herself and stopped. She wasn't going there, especially not with Ruby. Her breath was hard in her chest and she turned away, trying to catch it.

"No," Ruby said, grabbing her shoulders and turning the girl to face her. "If you don't care, what? Don't start something you can't finish."

She turned back, her eyes starting to blur slightly with tears. She was really trying to hold it all in, because that's what she did. She hated going to this place, and she hated being pushed there. Even Ben knew to tread lightly. Nellie really wanted to be left alone, so she gave in, her body slumping slightly. "Then they can do what they want to me, and I don't care, because I won't feel it," she said in a near whisper. Her hand swiped her eyes quickly. She was really, really hating this.

"That? Is not the way to do it," Ruby said, her voice low. "Because they have ways of making you care. They will tear into you until you do feel it, and they won't stop until they do. They will find all the right buttons to push, and when they do? You're done. Gone. Nothing left. If you really want to not feel it? You fight back with everything you have so that you don't have to."

"That might work perfectly if we were just talkin' 'bout heaven or hell. Real life isn't that simple."

"Well, make it that simple. Decide the kind of person you're going to be and stick to it. Otherwise, you're just screwing yourself."

"I'm the same person I always am," she said quietly. Her arms crossed, stubbornly standing aside.

"Yeah, and that person isn't worth her own weight." Ruby wasn't going to back out of her space anytime soon. "That's not a decision. That's just existing."

"You're right." She looked over at Ruby. "I'm not worth it." Then she walked over towards the window to put even more space between them. She was weak on her feet and knew she'd crumble as soon as Ruby was kind enough to leave her alone.

And that pissed Ruby off. She stalked over, grabbing her elbow and turning her around forcefully. "So what, you're just rolling over and taking it? Every life is worth it, Nellie. Every single fucking one. If you want to be worth it, drop this Daddy's girl bullshit and act like it."

"Stop," she begged, looking Ruby in the eye. "Please. I-I can't..." Her chin trembled slightly and she bit her lip. "I don't want to be worth it. I don't want-to feel like I am and then lose it. So...can we just...stop?" Her voice stayed calm, quiet. This was going so far past her comfort zone and she was only falling further into herself.

"No. We can't stop. Because the only way you're gonna lose it is if you stop believing it yourself."

Her head dropped, chin tucking in, and she shook her head slowly. "Please.."

"No." Ruby moved her hand under the girl's chin, tilting her head up so that Nellie was meeting her eyes. "If you want to feel like you're worth it, you have to believe yourself. Otherwise no one's gonna care."

Nellie looked at her, she had no choice really. And she couldn't really look away. "I don't want them to care. Then I'll care. Then they'll...go, and I'll still care.."

Ruby met her eyes unflinchingly, not even bothering to look away. "Well, suck it up. It's a part of life. People care and people leave, and you just have to deal with it because that's what life is."

She nodded and stepped back. She wasn't sure she liked the feeling in her stomach that Ruby's touch was giving her. "Okay. Fine." She wiped her face against her shoulder and crossed her arms tightly. "I get the point. You can stop...I get it." It was hurting, and she just wanted it to stop.

"No, I don't think you do. You just want me to stop." Ruby took that next step forward, invading her personal space again. "It hurts and you want it to stop."

"You're making it hurt."

"Well, it's supposed to hurt," Ruby snapped back. "If you don't feel anything how do you know it's happening." She kept moving forward, not stopping until Nellie's back was against the wall and Ruby was way too close for comfort. "Pain, pleasure, it's all the same thing, sweetie. It's just one of this little things that lets you know you still exist."

Nellie didn't really know how to respond. Her heart was pounding, and she wasn't sure if it was because Ruby was intimidating her or because Ruby was that close. She wasn't sure how to feel about the latter. Of course, in her life, she'd always preferred going with pleasure. That's why there had been so many guys. Because feeling that good was so much better than feeling that pained. She couldn't get passed Ruby, so she only looked down again.

"No. Hey. Look at me." Ruby forced her eyes up again, pushing in closer so that Nellie had to hold her stare. "Make me see that you aren't completely empty in there."

"How?" She asked in a strained voice, glaring back.

Ruby watched her for a moment, before making the jump. The proximity was close enough that she couldn't hold back any more, and she just had to at least try. Taking her chin, in her hand, she pulled her closer roughly, before bringing her lips closer, catching her in a rough kiss.

Nellie was caught off guard, and she made a slight noise of surprise and annoyance. Her hand came up to Ruby's chest to push her away, but the heat suddenly rushing through her body wouldn't let her. She tried to resist a moment longer, but then her fingers were gripping onto Ruby's shirt and she let herself fall into the kiss as she returned it.

Ruby grinned slightly as she relaxed into the kiss, before pulling her in closer and pushing harder. If Nellie wanted her to stop, she needed to say it now, because Ruby wasn't a plan of starting things that they weren't willing to finish.

A soft cry sounded in her throat at that and she gripped onto Ruby tighter. Everything was fuzzy and burning and she hadn't pieced together until that moment how much she wanted it. And Nellie didn't stop when she wanted something. Or someone. She always got what she wanted. And right then she wanted Ruby to be touching her more.

Ruby pulled her way from the wall and started to back her towards the bed, fully intending to take the lead in this. It was what she did, after all. She let her hands wander down to the edge of the short skirt, brushing against the skin of her thighs as she started to move up.

Nellie let herself fall back onto the bed, letting out a moan at the touch. She lifted her hips and tried to get closer. Ruby let her hands wander further, pushing clothing to the side until she found what she wanted, before starting to nibble on her neck lightly. Another gasp sounded and Nellie's head fell back on the bed. Her nails dug into Ruby's shoulder as she just held on. Ruby continued to push, biting down on her pulse point as she felt her getting closer.

"Oh, fuck," Nellie muttered, her knees coming up to wrap tightly against Ruby's waist.

Ruby just continued to push her closer, free hand wandering over her thighs lightly and teasing the skin and exploring. She still wasn't sure what the hell she was doing, but Nellie pushed that aside and went with what felt right. Her hand slid up through Ruby's hair and she pulled her in to kiss her again. Ruby leaned into the kiss, nipping at her bottom lip as she continued to take roughly, just spreading her out and going with it over and over again. Nellie was begging Ruby again, in a different way altogether, as she felt herself getting closer to loss of control. Ruby just kept pushing closer, getting her hands over as much skin as possible and keeping to push her towards that edge.

A moment or two later, Nellie finally relaxed back onto the bed. Her eyes closed as she tried to let everything catch up to wherever it was the she was. Ruby eased up just a little, pressing kisses to the curve of her neck lightly while she waited for her to come down. Everything slowly stopped spinning and Nellie sighed, leaning in to the kisses.

Ruby kept the kisses slow, before pulling back and looking down at her. "See what I mean? You gotta fight for it."

Nellie looked up at her, her fingers finding the skin of Ruby's hip to brush against it slowly. Getting a feel for it. "I've never had a problem fightin' for that..." She smirked slightly.

Ruby rolled her eyes. "Well you have to fight for everything else, too. It's not any good if you don't fight for it."

Nellie sighed and bit her lip, looking away again. "I know," she said softly.

Ruby rolled her eyes slightly, before pushing herself up a little more. "You just choose not to."

"I...I don't know what to fight for....I don't know what I want."

She rolled off her, reaching for her clothes as she started to get dressed. "Maybe you should figure that out."

"Yeah...I get that." Nellie rolled over and propped her chin on her arm. She pouted slightly. "Leavin' already?"

"Got other things I have to take care of," she replied. "I wasn't supposed to stay long anyway."

"Right," she said, dropping her head on the pillow.

Ruby smirked slightly, before starting to stalk towards the door. "Don't worry. I'll be back."

Her head was still tilted to Ruby. "I'm capable of returning the favor, y'know."

She shrugged slightly. "Maybe next time."

"You're gonna make me wait."

"Who knows," Ruby began with a bit of a smirk. "Maybe you might learn something."

"And what will I learn by waitin'?" She sat up, legs crossing and arms leaning back. She knew this pose worked for any man, but she wasn't stupid enough to think it would work for her. Still. It was natural for her to try to tempt.

"Patience," Ruby replied. "And not getting everything you want right away."

"Maybe I only want company."

"Then you should head back downstairs. I'm sure April would be happy to keep you company."

Nellie laughed slightly and fell over onto her side, giving up. "Hard ass."

"Honey, I'm over seven hundred years-old. I know every trick in the book."

"Lotsa tricks," she said with a slight grin. "Only one me."

"Prove it. Cuz I've known girls like you. Maybe next time you can show me what makes you different."

"Maybe you just aren't lookin' hard enough. You hafta stop bein' so serious all the time."

Ruby rolled her eyes. "If I was serious we wouldn't have done what we just did."

"Mmhmm."

"And besides -- there's still a chance you could die. Once that's over we'll see about me being less serious."

"So now you've got more motivation to keep me alive."

"Not really," Ruby sighed. "But maybe it's more of a motivation for you."

Nellie rolled her eyes. "Fine, just go." For a bit she had almost thought someone wanted to spend time with her, without having to in order to keep her alive. She yanked her covers over herself and rolled over, her back to Ruby.

Ruby shook her head before disappearing out the door, going back to what she needed to do.

Nellie waited until she felt herself alone in the room, before curling up tightly and closing her eyes. Was she really this desperate for attention?
