well this computer is in chinese so i can't really tell if i'm updating right now or not, but i'll just forge ahead blindly. kind of like what i've been doing for the past week! yesterday we woke up at 5 am, i repeat 5 am, to take a 9 hour busride through the chinese countryside to Zhanjiang. it was sad to say goodbye because i'd made friends with some girls who are going to a different place, but we're planning on barhopping and having a sleepover when we get back to hong kong at the end of the four weeks. anyway, the drive was beautiful...green fields with waterbuffalo covered in mud to keep themselves warm and people working with those big hats on. the poverty was at times depressing but the city we're in now is very nice. there's a grocery store right outside the hotel we're staying at, and our rooms are standard US motel which is more than i expected. last night we had a banquet with a chinese man, larry, who works at the college, and his two helpers, dylan and dragon. dylan is named after bob dylan. both boys are graduates from the college and extremely nice and funny and fluent in english. the food was delicious, there were about 20 different plates that sat on the rotating lazy susan. i'm becoming more agile with chopsticks by the minute here. i can't even describe all the different dishes but my favorite was spicy tofu and noodles. my least favorite was the chicken's head staring at me. today larry showed us around campus and pretty soon dylan is taking us shopping, so i must go. it's good to finally get to china and unpack, but it'll take me a few days to adjust. my parents are back in g-rap for the next couple weeks so i'm sure they'd love it if any of you g-rappers went to visit them. maybe my mom would even cook for you.
