And I think it’s gonna be a long long time

Just returned from a road trip through Worcester, Norwalk, Stamford, Philly, New Jersey, and Providence.

It was a slow road trip. I didn’t drive (useless). We had a good time. It was a good distraction. This entry will sound abit stilted because I’m not in a particularly effusive mood today, but I suppose I should force myself to attempt to emote.

Most food here is a shade of brown, yellowing brown or some shade removed.

At Worcester, we went to the Worcester Art Musuem. There was a Cezane and two Monets, and a bunch of dusty Dutch paintings which were variously impressive. The place looked like an old courtyard. It was empty. No one goes to Worcester.

The sun in Connecticut was next unbearably bright and hot. We had lunch at a Louisiana BBQ place given it was Memorial Day. Even while I squinted through the sun and was constantly assailed by thoughts like “did I leave my sunglasses behind” each time we left a restaurant, it was still a good time.

In Jersey, we recognised the streets as a close cousin of Indonesia’s pothole ridden ones. We went to a battleship. There were many levels up and down it. It was claustrophobic and hot and gray but interesting. I’m glad we went there because it would never be on my to do list. Accidental encounters broaden your horizons.

For Philly, we met up with S at Bronx before heading over. It’s my 4th or 5th time there and somehow I feel like I know the place like the back of my hand. We toured the Penn campus again and had a really good Indonesian lunch near Chinatown. Later, we had tea. We had tea being a loose sentence for “we ordered, realised S1 was going to be late for her train back to NY, and drove a car to the station after downing our teas in plastic containers.)

For our second Philly day we are at reading market. I had a few bites of J1’s cheesesteak while watching S2 and J2 make their way very slowly though some Thai and Filipino food. Also bought four beiler donuts for us to share. Mistake. Diabetes.

In Providence we had a great breakfast. I had steak tips, marking the first time in my life I have ordered steak for myself voluntarily in a dining context. It was pretty tasty. Later, we went to the zoo. I must say that elephants and giraffes look really strange in real life. The zoo was peppered with lanterns of unicorns dragons and gryffins, in case anyone should forget what they looked like too in the face of nature’s actual preferred evolution outcomes. Dinner was kind of gross. Fish and chips. Err.

The trip was great, but slightly marred by an irritating undercurrent of insecurity emanating from ABC’s phone which hung over everyone’s head like a sword of Damocles. It was pretty irritating because only someone who manipulates so much will assume the worst of everyone. And- logical inconsistencies in assumptions. Honestly….we all are adults and I like to think we have more respect for ourselves (firstly) and then others than to do big big bad bad things etc. Also, some of us always think with the actual heads attached to our neck. Anyway, extremely irritating. It’s hard being friendly with someone who from a distance has a pattern of manipulation and yet- is someone you can’t critique out loud because you know, everyone shoots the messenger….ugh.

Anyway!! This was a good trip!!!
