Bike!
I bought a new bike! I love not having to break with my feet anymore!
I have been thinking about buying a new-to-me bike for 2 months now, but was convinced to spring for a NEW new bike - so it's all shiny & customized. Alan, who has been living on my father's couch since May, took me to the bike shop he used to work at & got me a discount. There are shocks on the seat - a feature I never considered wanting before, but am quickly learning to enjoy. And the brakes! I'd forgotten how great it is to just use the hand brakes.
And yet, somehow I miss my old bike. Yes, it was starting to rust, the brakes didn't really work, I broke one of the gear shifts off this fall, and my name & SSN are etched into it (due to an unfortunate clash between my mother & my grandparents, who got me the bike for my 8th B-day) - but it had so many memories and the little hissing click it made as I rode was soothing.
However, on the new bike I can now get to work in 3/4-1/2 the time (and in much greater comfort), so the new bike's totally worth it.
