Yet again 9/10 things that I voted for/against didn't go the way I voted. But I got to vote in person for the first time - which wasn't that exciting really (no line, no hassel - I just popped in on my way home from work), but I'm glad I've done it at least once in my lifetime now. Nov. 1st was Sandra's 21st birthday, so we went to spend it/Halloween in LA. I was a little nervous about the trip as Vanessa (the only one among us who drives) seemed a bit tired & sick from her weeks working at her mother's child care center (7month-2 yr olds so they need lots of care) at the beginning of our trip at she threw a bit of a hissy fit at Northern (the big Renn faire around here) last week that had Sandra & I chasing her around the fair for fear of not finding her again. But although we got off to a late start (4pm when we had originally been aiming for 11-12) the trip was fun. Lots of little snags along the way though. There are only like 3 places where you have to switch highways from 280 to the grapevine (over 300 mi apart), and yet we somehow managed to miss 2 of them. I left my bankcard (at my bank luckily) which gave me a minor panic attack when I didn't know where it had disappeared to.
There was the cutest family of kitties among these fast food places by the highway. We counted at least 9 gorgeous orange & white fluffballs and I'm sure there were more. There were two kittens that we fed chicken nuggets & hamburgers (not the healthiest - but what we had) We named the kittens Nugget & Hamburger. Leaving them was so hard. Vanessa & I each want a kitten of my own so much and we had to keep repeating to each other that we're not allowed to get a new kitten yet.
We spent Halloween night at a bar - very different from the house parties and/or trick or treating that I've spent all of my previous Halloweens doing. I had several drunk people tell me that I freaked them out in my costume as the angel of death. I had fun relaxing on the drive with my friends and it was so nice to socialize with people around my age who aren't the same few friends from high school. I love them, but I think we fall into bad HS behavioral patterns around each other sometimes.
Between leaving late, hitting traffic, and stopping back to see the cats we didn't get back until about 1am & I crashed at Vanessa's so I didn't get back home until after I voted Tue. night. So when I found out Bush was going to be our President for four more years (so depressing) I was already maudlin from lack of sleep & too much drinking this weekend. The people (only 1 at a time) bopping about to songs like "That's the way uh-huh, uh-huh I like it" and the Ducktales themesong for an AIDS-dance-a-thon were somehow extremely cheering to me yesterday.
Now if only everyone at my work could stop stressing out. Maybe next week when all the big meetings are over.
