Insects flit above the hollow spears, as if the battle were only yesterday.

That's really well written. Nice reflection on both the horror and timelessness of battle and death.

(Note: just doing a little catch-up at tolkien100.)

This is very poetic, I would say elegiac in tone. It captures the feel of the Dead Marshes perfectly.
