Well, this is kinda tough because... well, me and MDH just don't have that many. Heck, this year we haven't even got a tree, since our old fake plastic one died and we don't really have room for one... but there were many Christmas traditions in my parents' house as a kid...
1. When I was a kid, of course me and my brother would get up really early on Christmas morning and go shake presents and try to guess what we'd gotten while trying to be nice to the parents and let them sleep in. I don't think it worked very well, I'm sure they got up earlier than they wanted... kids with presents waiting are usually not too quiet. But anyway, the rule was we could attack the stockings before they got up. And, among other things, for some reason there was always a tangerine among its contents... O_o And if I recall correctly, the traditional Christmas morning breakfast in my parents' house involved scrapple and eggs... yum!
2. On Christmas eve we'd ride around and look at Christmas lights and decorations, and then later at night we'd go stand, in the shivering cold, out on the porch and look for Rudolph's nose in the sky. I swore often that I had seen it, and heard sleigh bells... ahh to be a kid! And then sometimes we'd sing carols and my dad would play his clarinet and I'd play my viola, and maybe my brother would play the piano, and it was fun. Yeah.
3. Another thing on Christmas mornings was that Santa's little footprints would always be there in ash in front of the fireplace... I found out later that my dad made them with his thumb...
4. In the weeks before Christmas, we'd go, some afternoon, into the big city, and walk around and look at all the window displays, and give change to the street performers, and buy roasted chestnuts and get very cold feet.
5. And a more current one... hmm, well, I usually string up Christmas lights all over the house, and hang ornaments up from the ceiling (I think of it as the "my tree exploded" look), and just listen to a lot of carols. And muse about how it just doesn't feel so Christmasy around here, and think about stringing lights on the palm tree outside, just to be cliche...
Okay, I think that was more than 5. Let's see, who can I tag... bah, okay, if you're reading this, and your LJ name has an "a" in it anywhere, I compel you to do this meme! (if you want to, of course ^__^)
