I was making this piece for a blend challenge site, and I was just wondering how other people create their stuff. Do you just get pictures, throw them in the canvas, and just blend away then add brushes for finishing touches? I feel so arrogant saying this since I'm not exactly one of the best graphic artists out there, but why does a haphazard-looking graphic get commended nowadays?
When I have quite a huge canvas a number of pictures to choose from, it takes me a few minutes or so to think it out and figure what picture I'd use, where I'd put, how the overall art will look like in the end. It changes as I go through the process, but I usually try to keep the theme intact, and this is why it takes me a lot of time to finish a piece.
I'm not saying that one should take hours just produce something, especially since Thia was able to make a gorgeous header for her personal LJ, but it disappoints me a bit to see a lot of haphazard-looking artwork going around and the artists get commended and awarded for it. What does it take to be called a digital artist nowadays anyway?
Ehh, off to go sneakers shopping. For real, this time. :D
