Tutorial #7: Lilley in lush greens

Sep 05, 2011 11:09

A long, long time ago, the wonderful fuuurs asked me how I made one of my favourite icons. I am very sorry to have kept her waiting all this time. This icon was made a year ago and sadly, I don't exactly remember how and why I did what I did. However, I found the .psd and so this is an attempt to recreate this icon in Photoshop CS4.

Thank you for putting this together! I love the colouring and clarity of this icon. An interesting read and I definitely have to check out the clone tool guide because frankly I am useless with it.

You're welcome. :)

I don't always get it to work though and you almost always have to use other tools to make its effects less obvious. But still, it can come in handy.

Thank you so much for this! It's amazing to be able to see your process, and this is one of my all-time favorite icons! Great tutorial, and you've inspired me to play around with the clone tool more. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ♥

The clone tool is both a good friend and a truly horrible brat, so good luck! ;)

And you're welcome, of course.

I did very much enjoy the explosions of green on my screen. I think the coloring in this icon is just so impressive. The way you pulled green out of the very bland looking cap is quite amazing.

I also love the clone tool & duplication sections. They are a lot of fun.

I still think this tutorial is really useful, Janie. There's a lot of fun stuff in here even if you don't necessarily remember why you did a lot of it. Thank you for writing it up!

Generation Kill caps are generally bland, so I'm always in awe of how people like fuuurs and talipuu create colours in them. So thank you, I'm actually quite pleased with this one. :)

Fun, but tiresome. When people say they spent only a few minutes on an icon, this is one of the icons I always think about that make me want to say: "Are you kidding me? Do you know how much patience that took?"

Thank you so much & you're welcome! :)
