PERSONALITY » Itachi has, for lack of a better word, dual personalities. One he shows to everyone, and one that was left solely for his childhood and, more importantly, Sasuke.
The personality reserved for his brother was one of caring and compassion. Genuine happiness that he wasn't afraid to display, and a deep rooted calm persona that seemed unshakable for most of his childhood. A pacifist at heart, Itachi never did care for the ninja lifestyle and preferred peace over war, though still took pleasure in finding time to teach Sasuke how to do various ninja things or even simply playing tag. While around his brother, he seemed truly carefree and like the child he was.
Unfortunately because of his father and the choices Itachi made early in his life, this calm and peaceful state he has once possessed seemed to be lost forever in the weeks leading up to the massacre of the clan. He even went so far as to tell Sasuke that it had all been an act, a ploy to make Sasuke love and care about him so that he would hate him that much more when Itachi finally killed their family. From then on, he became a more detached and cold person, calculating everything and showing no real emotion at all. The only one that ever presented itself was when Itachi would be impressed by the capabilities an opponent would show him or the tiniest bit of relief that broke through when he found out that Sasuke had survived the fight against Deidara.
While generally very passive in nature and preferring to simply immobilize his targets rather than kill them, Itachi was quite clearly wise beyond his years and more intelligent than almost anyone else around him. He wasn't called a child prodigy or genius for no reason at all. He's good at calling people on their bullshit or knowing when someone is lying to him; he's very perceptive to the people and events around him, able to interpret the smallest actions and use it to his advantage, especially when it came to the more violent encounters.
The only time that Itachi is ever exceedingly cruel or mean is when it comes to Sasuke; a facade that was purely used to make Sasuke hate him more so that he would avenge the clan that Itachi stole away from him when they were children. He goes so far as to tell Sasuke to hate him, to run and hate him and then to try and kill him. His cruelty only continues every time they meet; whether it's telling Sasuke that he lacks the hate he needs, or stating that he only allowed Sasuke to live through the massacre so that Itachi could later steal his eyes to take his Sharingan to the next level.
His love for Sasuke, his utter dedication and adoration for his younger brother, was very much all that kept Itachi going throughout the years. He joined Akatsuki for the pure reason of being able to watch over Sasuke and protect him from any threats either within Konoha or outside of it. Itachi kept the fake personality of indifference and uncaring until his last breath when he offered Sasuke one last smile and transferred his Mangekyou abilities into his brothers eyes. It had, after all, helped to cement the fact that Sasuke would be the one to kill Itachi and get the revenge that his little brother so desired.
Itachi is shown to trust very few people after defecting from Konoha once the massacre was over. He puts a great deal of trust into his Akatsuki partner Kisame so that they are able to fight together without a hitch and because he knows full and well that Kisame respects him, which is mutually returned. The only other person that Itachi is shown to trust visibly is Naruto, whom he transfers some of his power into so that he would, in the end, be able to either save Sasuke from what might be his inevitable path of destruction, or kill him. Everything Itachi does, every move he makes, is generally tied back to Sasuke, who he seems to focus on the most.

Itachi is not what one would think to be a regular ninja. He certainly doesn't look the part; the man is too pretty with his narrow features and long eyelashes. While at first glance he simply seems to be a person of Japanese descent in his mid twenties, it is easy to see that initial impressions aren't always correct. If his attire doesn't throw you off, his eyes certainly will. Bright red and rotating while in use, his bloodline limit of the Sharingan isn't hard to miss. When just the regular Sharingan, it retains its red colour with three black tomoe's surrounding it; the Mangekyou is a different case entirely aside from the same red/black colour scheme; it resembles more of a pinwheel than anything else and is far more intimidating to watch.
Standing at 5'9, Itachi's height certainly makes his light weight seem as though he isn't a worry in the least. His build is small; minimal. Long arms and legs, slender at best. It's a surprise that he's as physically strong as he is, capable of lifting people or throwing someone into a wall with a single kick. On that fact alone of encountering fights at almost every turn, Itachi keeps his long -- mid-back length -- hair kept in a loose ponytail at the base of his neck. Fighting is far more convenient when it is not in the way.
Itachi has a fairly predictable attire that rarely, if ever, changes. Beneath his black Akatsuki cloak, the general ninja attire of a long sleeved v-neck shirt with a fishnet top underneath is paired with pants and (for lack of a better word) leg warmers and black ninja sandals. Finger and toe nails are always painted a deep purple with a single ring on his right ring finger, holding the symbol '朱' inside of it. Another constant to his wardrobe is the necklace that never leaves him; three metal pieces on a thin chain.
Aside from all obvious physical appearances, one that isn't so striking is the fact that when his Sharingan isn't activated, Itachi's eyes are a dull gray colour. They used to be much darker, mind you, but the more he used the Mangekyou, the more his vision deteriorated until he was almost blind. The fade in his eye colour is simply a testament to that. Good luck ever seeing anything but the Sharingan, though.
ABILITIES & STRENGTHS » Itachi is beyond gifted with the abilities that he has. Even when he was young, his teachers made note that they very rarely had to help him for Itachi to progress in his skills. Even his partner, Kisame, who has far too much pride in what he's capable of, admitted that Itachi was stronger.
While he is both talented with offensive and defensive methods, he normally only used the second one, choosing to incapacitate his opponents instead of harming or killing them. With the experiences he had from the world war, he always avoids harming people to the point of death whenever possible. It's also notable that his maximum strength is never used in a battle; whether it's because of being a pacifist and not wanting to use all of his power or because of the illness he has, it's never stated.
JUTSU
There are three types of jutsu. Ninjutsu, which is any technique that uses up a ninja's chakra and allows them to do things that normal people can't, it also requires handseals more often than not; Taijutsu, a basic form of fighting that is based on physical ability alone and doesn't require chakra; and Genjutsu, another set that requires chakra and handseals but is mostly an illusionary technique that can confuse every sense a person has. Itachi was said to be a master of all three of these jutsus, as well as the Sharingan and the Uchiha clan's techniques as well; some of his techniques involve using crows, while either letting a clone disappear into a flock of them or hiding weapons under the disguise of one. In a fight against some of the Konoha jounin's, it's said that Itachi wasn't even using half of his strength while fighting and was still able to incapacitate every opponent that came up against him. He was also able to dispatch the entire Uchiha clan with only one accomplice and stop Sasuke's chidori as well as any of his attacks with barely even blinking.
When using handseals, it's said that Itachi's speed is incredible. He's able to do them while throwing weapons simultaneously. He's also able to move incredible distances in a fast enough speed that he appears to be teleporting rather than just moving quickly. Even Sasuke and Kakashi who also have the Sharingan and can measure a persons movements were unable to track Itachi because of his considerable speed.
SHARINGAN | MANGEKYOU SHARINGAN
The 'Sharingan' is what the Naruto-verse refers to as a blood line limit. It's specific to only family members of certain clans and the Sharingan is exclusive to the Uchiha's (aside from those who either steal eyes of Sharigan holders or are given them). It comes in stages of different tomoe around the pupil; the more tomoe a persons Sharingan has, the better their abilities with it become. The most basic of techniques that the Sharigan provides is being able to watch a persons chakra flow as well as being able to tell if they are under a genjutsu, since the flow becomes interrupted. It also allows them to decipher different types of jutsu and chakra, see even the simplest of movements, and tracking objects or people while being able to preconceive what course of action the person/object will take next. The last ability is being able to memorize any technique that they see while the Sharigan is activated aside from other bloodline limits.
Itachi constantly has his Sharingan activated and, because of that, it takes very minimal chakra from him to keep it going. Whether it's the regular Sharingan, or the Mangekyou.
The Mangekyou is a far more advanced version of the Sharingan, granting the user more techniques and heightens previous Sharingan abilities. On the downside, it also consumes much more chakra than the regular Sharingan and also causes its users eyesight to worsen if it is kept on or used too frequently, eventually leading to being blind and losing the Sharigan forever.

In his left eye is Tsukuyomi, an ability that traps the target in an illusion that is able to make the person feel like they've been tortured for days in a matter of seconds. Creating somewhat of a spectral being that was the God of Battle, it holds the Totsuka Sword of sealing in one hand and Yata's Mirror in the other; a shield that reflects any attack thrown at it.
It's been said that between Itachi's ability to use the Sharingan so flawlessly paired with Susanoo and its weapons makes Itachi invincible.
