Summer (our Winter) 2007 Anime Impressions
Quite a few good series coming out this season! My impressions so far...
School Days 1 - This is based on a H-game, and is well-known for having brutal alternative endings, kinda of like Higurashi, except school style. There's apparently 21 possible endings, including some truly odd ones. This clip from the game shows one of the more violent ones XDD:
The first ep of the anime was pretty standard and just set up the love triangle, but there's definitely lots of room for drama and angst. It seems sort of along the lines of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, but I think I like the style of this one better, plus it has potential to go completely psycho like Higurashi did. ;)
Mushi-Uta 1 - This anime is based on the light novel series about bugs. GIANT bugs. I lol'd when one guy that was being chased screamed "Help!" and a giant flying bug appeared out of nowhere, picked him up, and try to fly him to safety. XDD I don't like bugs, but it looks pretty interesting so far, plus it has Nabatame Hitomi and Saiga Mitsuki in it. =3 Don't know if I have time to follow it though.
Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho 1 - A comedy series about swimming. It's decently funny, but there's so much fanservice in there that it's too distracting to watch. More for the guys probably.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 1 - ^___^ The OP is again by Eiko, but it's nowhere near as creepy as the first[1]. As someone on a LJ community commented, this one seems to focus more on the tragedy aspect of the series. I think it works well, I REALLY like the OP animation, I can see some really nice wallpapers coming out of them. ^^ Anyway, this ep was set 30 years after what that took place at the end of the first season. Nothing really happens except for a lot of talking/explaining between the police officers involved, which would be really boring/meaningless for people who haven't seen the first season. XDD I can't wait to see how this season develops and see all the characters again. ^^
[1]Wow, this blew my mind. When you play the new OP Naraku no Hana backwards, it actually sounds like the first OP!! (For comparison, this is the first OP and this is how the new OP sounds like when played properly). That's so incredibly clever of I've Sound!! =33
