SQUEE! (No spoilers in post but MAJOR SPOILERS IN COMMENTS.)

I finally saw Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End! I've seen a lot of folks grumbling that they didn't like it, but I did. I really enjoyed it, even though one thing bothered me a little: Everyone was constantly filthy and wet. I mean, much more so than in the first two movies. I know they're pirates but COME ON, people! :P This movie ( Read more... )

Really glad you enjoyed.. and yes, movie food is insane. I always try and take a drink with me - I'm cheap that way!!

Now, see, I'm confused. I have read your comments and others and I thought I had it but now I don't know. I thought...

That Will was now the equivalent of Davy Jones and got one year on land for every ten at sea. I understood that at the end he was coming back to see Elizabeth (plus one) for his one day. Is this vaguely right?

I also thought that as Jack was going off looking for the Fountain of Life that would work well in terms of giving Will back his humanity/life.

If you wouldn't mind.. can you share what your dilemma was regarding the ending? I'm worried I've totally misunderstood the whole thing!!

But yes, I'm delighted you enjoyed going and liked the movie :)

Although recent posts on Word Player (where Ted & Terry frequent and post about the film) says that the little green flash we saw at the end was meant to signify Will's return to normal life and having ended his tenure as Captain of the Flying Dutchman. In that Elizabeth (and Will) had remained faithful to each other for those ten years and now Will would be able to return to a normal life on land.

I also thought that as Jack was going off looking for the Fountain of Life that would work well in terms of giving Will back his humanity/life. - I thought it was the Fountain of Youth, or are they just the same thing ( ... )

I have long had a problem with the script writing which does at times verge on incoherent but the green flash?!?!? I thought that just meant the arrival of The Dutchman. But I see Illuminated has posted above that there was a missing scene which explained more. So that makes me feel better.

Yes.. I think it probably was the Fountain of Youth and not Life now I ponder it. I did comment to the friend I went to see it with that Elizabeth had clearly been at the Oil of Olay in those ten years *g*

I do believe I shall merely let the intricacies of the plot go and just enjoy again my mental image of Will in that billowy white shirt and bandana up in the rigging after the green flash. That makes me happy.

Illuminated_sin.. sorry for rambling on in your journal :)

I thought that just meant the arrival of The Dutchman. - Remember when Pintel spoke about the flash for the first time? He said it signified a soul crossing over from the other side, which was why we got that green flash when Jack came back from the Locker.

So if that holds true, then the green flash before the Dutchman appeared means that Will has come over from the other side.

I don't know much about this missing scene, save that I've heard about it. One can only hope that maybe they bring out a Directors Cut, or maybe put it in the deleted scenes bit of the DVD. :)

I did comment to the friend I went to see it with that Elizabeth had clearly been at the Oil of Olay in those ten years *g* - *grins* So that's what Will's been up to when not ferrying souls between the worlds. Tracking down the latest anti-aging cream (let's face it, there's nowhere he really can't go to find them) and sending it Elizabeth's way in a care package (with some things included for Will Junior). ;)

That makes me happy. - Hear, hear ( ... )

I just explained it in more detail above in response to Ylith's comment. Sorry for being vague before.

I thought of Jack taking over, too, but that would mean he'd have been on the Dutchman all that time, right? Because when it popped up from beneath the sea, it could only contain the dead/undead and Will, who was captain and in a sort of temporary undead state until he served his time. If Jack took over, he'd have already had to be on board, which means the dinghy capsized and Will tried to ferry him and he asked to crew on the Dutchman instead, or something else has happened to allow Will and Jack to meet up and Jack to survive on that ship.

It was a bit confusing, wasn't it? But I still loved it. :D
