know I'm such a sucker for the underdog in any situation. You might understand, then, why I've watched this video dozens of times in the past two weeks. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch this chubby, gray-haired lady who admits she's never even been kissed and who lives alone with her cat -- and who can belt out this song

I think it has, in my opinion, something to do with a combination of (a) how she looks (having not watched the show, I might be wrong, but not many older people tend to get up and do these things. It's normally the younger generation. And at first glance she doesn't look anything special. She's the gran you visit for tea and biscuits on a weekend.) and (b) how she came across.

Likely she was just nervous but you could see the looks on their faces when she cracked the joke about being "52, just on the one half" or however that went.

Going by those two things they, and everyone else, probably weren't expecting anything different than all the frumpy hopefuls who had shown up before on that show and also on the X-Factor too.

Guess I'm just trying to say that to look at her, you wouldn't think she would sound so good. Guess it's a stereotype that anyone with a good voice is young and good-looking. Unless a singer has been around for years and had time to establish themselves, there aren't many who are starting out at her age. But then, as she said, she hadn't had the chance to prove herself before.
