Clicker training

I've applied for ownership of a local dog and hopefully will be approved (crossing fingers). I hope to have my dog soon. I'm going to be training my own service dog.

The way I'm doing it is with Clicker Training, also known in the scientific community as Operant Conditioning. It's safe, effective, does not use punishment, and can be used with any type of animal. It's also used to teach kids and adults dance moves and better athletic performance; in that context it's been known as TAGteach. I can even apply this type of teaching to my own kids to help shape the problem behaviors they have due to autism.

I cannot stress enough how amazing clicker training is. Here's a short video showing it in action:

And here are some commonly asked questions and answers about clicker training: http://www.clickertraining.com/whatis

There's even a video of them training a cat they got from animal rescue, to show how fast and well this works: http://www.clickertraining.tv/product.html?item=FREE-14

I'm just so thrilled with clicker training. It takes no force at all and you can teach any animal anything they're physically capable of doing using this method.

Will update about the dog as soon as I know whether I got it or not. In the meantime, expect me to be absent a bit more than usual because I'm learning as much as I can about training my new dog. :) SQUEE!

yay, service dog, squee, video
