Sir Ian and Sean Astin nominated for award

May 28, 2008 02:13

PETA has listed Ian McKellen and Sean Astin among the nominees for this year's sexiest vegetarian. Jared Leto and Tobey Maguire are also on the list. Lots of interesting people I had no idea were vegetarians. Have a look and maybe even vote. :) sir ian mckellen, links

OMGWTF Geezer Butler, Rikki Rockett and Rob Zombie? You could start a vegetarian metal band!

And how'd you like to be a fly on the wall at a Marley family gathering: Damien and Stephen made the list, but not Ziggy! :-)

I didn't know about Hayden Panettiere - I think they should be using her in more ads.

And of course, big ups to Sir Ian and Sean Astin - it seems like wherever there's anything good, you'll find Sir Ian. :-)

So says the vegetable-o-phobe. ;)

It's not that I'm phobic. It's just that every vegetable I actually like, you declare to not actually be vegetables. :-P

A man cannot (and should not) live on potatoes alone. Nor potatoes and sausage. :P

I never tried claiming sausage as a vegetable. But bedsides potatoes you've also "de-vegetablized" corn, sweet potatoes, onions, beans, lettuce - any vegetable I might actually like to eat. (And any one of which has more nutrition than cucumbers, which it bothers you to no end that I don't really like.)

That's not so; sweet potatoes are fine, but you never buy them except at Thanksgiving! :P

Onions don't count because they burn up their value in stench. ;)

Lettuce has no nutritional value. Corn is just starch and doesn't contain the vitamins that a green or brightly colored veggie has. That's my only complaint with it; we can have it sometimes but you only want white foods. Bleh. And beans are functional protein, not green vegetables.

Lettuce totally PWNS cucumber! (And you'd have to eat the peels of the cucumber [which I prefer not to do] to get even that amount of nutrients.) Numbers taken from here.

There's not much difference between them, actually, and as you can see with all the miniscule numbers, neither one is very nutritious. I eat cucumber because it tastes good and provides fiber, and I eat enough OTHER veggies that it doesn't HAVE to carry me nutritionally. You suggest eating lettuce as your vegetable besides corn and potatoes and my assertion still stands that it doesn't have any redeeming value. :P

Potatoes and corn are more starch than anything & thus tend to fall outside the vegetable category. However, in the States apparently potatoes are the average person's #1 source of Vitamin C (mmm, fries!).

Iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value, not much flavor, but a very satisfying crunch. Is that the only lettuce you like?

Note that, while I adore cucumbers, I would never force them on anyone else (unless they were the magic antidote to some poison or something).

I also like romaine lettuce, and I'm particularly fond of butter lettuce. I also like baby spinach. (As well as fully grown spinach.)

I always eat a few slices of cucumber on a salad (mainly to set a good example for the boys), but I could never just sit down and eat a cucumber by itself.

I'm currently a big fan of butter lettuce, myself. And you're an excellent role model, it sounds like. (One friend refuses to eat anything with spinach in it, then gets annoyed with their kids for picky eating.)

Hungry now.
