i <3 paper

i've been a bit annoyed with the whole internet thing lately.  doing research on schools, looking up jobs, finding recipes, and generally just looking for information.  it's annoying me.  and i'm starting to understand why.

i love paper.  i love the feel of it, the crackle and snap it makes when you move it fast.  i LOVE that sound.  i love that it's tangible.  that i can set aside a piece of paper, organize it, move it, refer to it, carry it with me, write on it.  i love that my brain will memorize the locations of certain pieces of information on that very page.  i LOVE that i can spread out 15-20 pieces of paper around me and be able to see and read them all at one time.  visually map their importance.  put them back together like a puzzle.  you'll never see me happier than on a floor surrounded by sheets and stacks.

an internet page doesn't work the same way.  sure, you can bookmark it to find it again later, to organize it into a folder.  but a computer screen is stagnant.  there is no direct hand-eye coordination, only hand-cord/wireless-cursor coordination.  i can alt-tab or ctrl-tab like a fiend through windows and tabs, but that is no substitute for the shuffling of pages.  internet pages change; their design and content.  they aren't a fixed size and i can't get an accurate mapping of information, only a scroll down about halfway and it's on the left next to the ad only my brain remembers it wrong cuz it's really 2/3 of the way down and the fucking ad changes every refresh so i can't even use that as a guide.

so right now i should be working on my resume.  but the thought of typing out so much information and then having to arrange it all using a computer just makes me want to puke.  don't get me wrong, i hate to hand-write a lot of information too; i'm more of a jotter-of-notes.  my desk is covered in little 4x6 lined pages of scribbled thoughts in G-2 Pilot pens; sometimes i'm manic enough to let them run wild, other times i'm anal and re-write them so they are more organized and don't have any scratched-out errors.  if i could write out all my resume notes on notecards and then spread them out and reorganize them before taking them to Word 2007 (which i'm still getting used to), that would be fantastic.  but notecards are for term papers and i'm not in college anymore.  if i could jump that hurdle and embrace my inner-anal-geek, maybe i'd be resume-building and not typing out this shit.

so i love paper.  make fun of me all you like: i printed out all the house rules for FD when i was creating Kaya two summers ago, and i printed out all the new combat stuff for when i went to
reallyatworkman's last week for my tutorial.  i can't read more than a few scrolls of internet pages, so i tend to print those out too.

i'm tired of typing.  i'm going to go read a book and enjoy the sound of filpping pages.
