Roses
She woke up in the morning and found a dozen black roses on her computer desk. Dark pajamas ghosted over the carpet and she picked out the card stuck in among the long stems.
Flowers are filthy things. I hope you're happy. A smirk spread it's way across her face and she laughed, throwing the card at the roses as she grabbed her stuff to get ready for class.

She found him waiting for her around the block like always. She tossed the flowers at him and watched as he caught them with a grimace, holding the stems away from himself. She grabbed his arm and pulled him after her.
"You didn't have to get those for me."
He pried his way out of her grasp and gave them back to her, handling them like a biohazard. "Yeah, but you wanted to give them out to all the stupid dirt-children that don't know what they mean."
She grinned at him, that sly feeling inside of her slipping out over her face. She punched him in the shoulder lightly, watched as he recoiled and slapped a hand over that spot, just the slightest of smiles on his lips.
"Anyway," she responded, like nothing had happened, "you can't really call them 'dirt-children' anymore. College is too late for that."
The Irken frowned, kicked a stone in the middle of the sidewalk and watched it skitter across the street. "I know. It's just..." he whispered it to her out of the side of his mouth, "I can't think of what else to call them."
Gaz flicked the end of the roses at him, a drop of water just missing his arm. He scowled at her and stuffed his hands back into his pockets. A minute passed, the human watching him as he stared at the sidewalk in front of them. Then he looked up.
"You wanna go do something later? There's a really bloody horror movie playing if you want to see it?"
Gaz rolled her eyes, almost laughing at him. "Sure. You're paying though."
