Genre: Action/drama/mystery
Warning: There may be some slight ZaGr later, i haven't decided yet. it's ok right now.
Summary: Dib's body is found bloody and broken on the street. Now it is up to a broken Gaz and a furious Zim to get revenge.

I don't have a fanfiction account anymore so about 7 pages are here for your enjoyment.

The boy’s frail body went spiraling across the pavement. His glasses flew off and shattered. He was near blind now, but he could see the shape looming above him.

He tried to stand up but a sharp pain went through his leg, panting heavily he began to shout out whatever he thought could make his attacker stop.

“I… I’m sorry, please…. Stop! STOP!”

Dib gasps out, panicking as the shadow gets nearer to his face. He can feel the tears falling down his cheeks and he licks at the salt. Streams of fear travel up and down his spine, his body is screaming to run but the shooting pains in his leg keep him pinned to the ground.

A long gloved hand reaches forward and grabs the boy’s collar and lifts him straight up into the air.

“Please, don’t… I’m so sorry… I am.”

Dib hears a slight chuckle and feels It’s breath on his face. The smell was sickening, and Dib felt as if he was about to vomit.

“Let me go…” Dib strains to say through clenched teeth. “I’m sorry…” His last words trail off in a quiet whine. The monster chuckles again.

“I know you are.” It says in a raspy, liquid voice.

Dib feels himself lifted higher into the air and then he is floating, sailing, it seems as if he can never come down. He closes his eyes.

*CRACK*

Dib hits the pavement and his eyes shoot open. He can see It’s black shoes walking away from him, two tiny blobs against a gray background.

‘I can chase it…’ Dib thinks to himself. ‘I’m not hurt! My leg feels fine…’

Dib’s vision turns a deep crimson and his breathing slows. He can feel a warm liquid in his mouth that tastes metallic and salty.

“Ha, ha.” Dib murmurs and blood rushes from between his lips spilling on the ground and joining the pool gathered by the top of his skull. “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

The boy’s eyes close and his chest stops rising, but the blood still flows and cascades in a river down the street.

And someone chuckles in the distance as the boy’s life ends.

“Where the hell is he!” Gaz screamed and threw her glass across the room. It shattered on impact with the wall.

“Now now Daughter…” A floating television screen hovered into the room. Professor Membrane spoke to his daughter. “You know how CRAZY he is, but we have to wait to go out.”

“He’s probably at Zim’s house chasing that stupid alien.”

“HAHAHAHA! That crazy boy.” Professor Membrane’s head floated out of the room. And Gaz sat alone brewing in her anger.

“That’s it, I’m going down to Zim’s house and I will get Dib.” Gaz grunted.

“That’s the spirit!” Membrane called from another room. “Then we can go out to eat!”

Gaz slipped on her coat and stumbled out of the door. She slipped her hands in her pockets and headed down the road. Suddenly a car rushed by her and she quickly jumped out of the way.

“What the hell?” Gaz screamed.

She turned in the opposite direction and her heart sank. Flashing red and blue lights were blaring at her from only two blocks away. There were cop cars and an ambulance.

Gaz started off in the direction and her pace quickened the nearer she got to the scene. She was less than 1 foot away when she saw the black bag being hoisted up into the ambulance.

“Some dude must have gotten in a crash.” She muttered to herself. She looked around but couldn’t see any wreckage, no cars, nothing but blood.

She shivered and went to turn around but heard a crack under her heavy boots. Stooping down she picked up the broken glasses. They were large and round and, she felt herself shudder, they were Dib’s.

Gaz ran into the mass of people and cars and stared at the chalk outline on the ground. The shape of feet and hands, a small body wearing what appeared to be a long coat.

This can’t be Dib. She thought to herself.

The leg was twisted off to the side in an abnormal way. The outline spread up to the large head complete with the shape of his hair, the long scythe.

Gaz felt the bile rise up in her throat when she saw the head. It was Dib, her brother had been murdered.

“It’s a shame isn’t it?” A large man stood beside Gaz. “Poor kid, he couldn’t have been older than 12.”

“Why?” Gaz managed to whisper.

“Why? Well whoever did this to him probably thought it was the kid’s fault. There was something about this boy that made the murderer need to kill him. According to the killer it was the kid’s fault, the kid was too smart, the kid was too different, the kid was alive and the murderer didn’t want him to be.”

The cop took off his hat and twisted it in his hands. Gaz tightened her fists and stared at the imprint.

She kicked her foot into the ground and focused on the head, she couldn’t take her eyes off of it. The blood that was pooled there glared in her eyes. This couldn’t all be her brother’s blood. There was too much, how could this all be her brother’s?

“Maybe you’re right.” Gaz said, her eyes still focused on the blood. “Maybe the bastard who did this to him thought it was my brother’s fault.”

The cop’s eyes grew wide. “You-Your brother? I am so sorry ma’am is there anything I can do?”

Gaz managed to turn away from the sight but the imprint of it was still in her eyes. She choked back the tears and swallowed the pain.

“Nothing… there is nothing you can do. But there is something I can do.” Gaz started walking in the opposite direction. “I can find out who did this.” Gaz said aloud.
“And when I do,” She cried out loudly, “There’ll be another body for you to clean up!”

Gaz walked past her house and kept walking straight. She was remotely aware of where she was headed, to a tall green house at the end of the cul-de-sac. If anyone on this miserable planet wanted Dib dead it would have to be Zim. Gaz started walking faster the nearer she got to Zim’s house.

Why do I even care?

She thought to herself, now running at full speed. Her hair blew behind her head and she felt the slight sting of tears in her eyes. She shook her head and choked the sobs back into her throat. She wouldn’t allow herself to show any pain.

He was just stupid Dib, I was about to beat him up anyway.

Gaz stopped in front of the house, she was glaring at the door.

I don’t care how annoying he was, he didn’t deserve to die that way, out in the street alone and in pain.

Gaz marched up to the door, swung her leg forward and kicked the door open. The living room was empty, even the little robot was nowhere to be found.

“ZIM!”
She screamed loudly, throwing things on the floor as she made her way into the kitchen.

“GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW YOU BASTARD!”

Gaz fell on the floor, her knees underneath her. She allowed a few tears to fall, but quickly wiped them away.

“How could he?”

Gaz asked, she was starting to doubt that even if Zim wanted to kill Dib that he simply could never do it. He wasn’t that smart or that strong.

Zim’s head poked out of the toilet in the kitchen and glanced nervously around.

“Sizz-lor?” Zim asked in a quivering voice. He didn’t have any disguise on and seemed so timid and small.

He couldn’t have killed him, he’s so weak… Gaz said to herself, her head down and her eyes focused on the floor.

When Zim spied Gaz on the floor he leapt out.

“YOU! Why- how did you get in my base!” Zim pointed accusingly at Gaz.

Gaz looked up at his face.

“Dib is dead Zim, you filthy monster!” Gaz screamed and stood up. She walked up next to Zim and looked down on him.

Gaz had grown about 1 inch taller than Zim and he quivered under fear of her height.

“What? The Dib has… expired?” Zim’s wide eyes seemed more vacant and languid than they usually did. His antennae drooped for a second but then he looked up at Gaz’s face.

He smiled sheepishly at her and gave a nervous chuckle.

“ha, ha, ha, I see…”

Zim wrung his hands together and backed away towards the wall. He was looking for something to touch, something to hang onto, and he found the wall. He leaned against it and continued his nervous laughter, a low broken chuckle. It appeared to be breaking, cracking almost.

“You j-just want me to be-believe that he is d-d-dead.” Gaz felt almost sorry for the alien.

Dib had been the only being in existence who took him seriously. Now Zim had nobody.

“Dib? Come out now, I see through your tactics! You pitiful earth monkey plans cannot fool me!” Zim looked around his base as if he could see Dib hiding in the ceiling taking pictures.

Dib was just as arrogant and foolish as Zim is. Gaz thought to herself and shook her head in disbelief. Why hadn’t they realized it in time that they were each others only friends? Even when Dib got older and had his first girlfriend Zim was still his life. And Zim never really had anyone else. Not even Gir.

Zim had grown quiet and was sitting on the floor with his arms hugging the wall and his legs splayed out straight in front of him. His lip and antennae were twitching.

Gaz reached into her pocket and took out the crushed glasses and laid them on the floor in front of Zim.

The frames were mainly intact but the glass was shattered. There were chunks of it still in the frame, and spots of blood littered those pieces that were left. Zim stared at the glasses and gave a little whimper. Then he crawled forward and grabbed them.

Gaz walked into the living room and dropped into the couch.

She was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep and let this all pass. The feeling of pain, the feeling of tears, the need to hold onto something. She just wanted it all to go away, but most of all she wanted to cry. Dib didn’t deserve this, Zim didn’t deserve this, but she would never let Dib see her cry, not even in his death.

She could hear Zim whimpering in the kitchen, a small whine like that of a dog who has just been hit by his master. Then she heard one loud crash and another, and more and more until she was sure the kitchen was destroyed. Gaz sat on the couch through the entire thing, waiting for Zim to calm down.

When he came into the room it was a sight to see. His face was darker somehow, not in the shade or color but his eyes were narrow and the glasses were in his hand. His face was scratched up.

Probably by the broken glass.

“Who…” Zim whispered through gritted teeth. “HOW! I could never kill him so how could anyone else?”

His response slightly amused her. She knew that Zim was angry, sad, even desolate. But for him to be jealous? This was a feeling she did not expect from the small Irken. But as arrogant as he was he would say something of the sort.

“I don’t know.” She had to admit. “That’s what I wanted to find out. So I came here to you because you were the first person I thought would want him dead.” Gaz stared at Zim. She managed to keep her face in that same cold, distant glare.

“Me? If I wanted to slaughter that meat sack he’d be gone by now. But it was interesting to have him around. It was fun…”

Zim looked like he was about to smile, the edge of his mouth rose ever so slightly. But then he looked down at the glasses and Zim’s face froze in that expression of anger. But when he turned to Gaz, his face fell into a look of despair and loneliness.

“Take me where you found these.”

Gaz was almost scared to see Zim as he stared at the blood stains on the ground. The chalk line had been removed, thank god for that. If Zim had seen that the blood came from Dib’s head he might have gone ballistic.

Gaz shuddered to see this ‘fierce, terrible’ alien look so pathetic. She always knew he was weak but this was an extreme of his normal frailty. He was slightly shaking and yet tense. His maroon eyes were clouded over.

Gaz had tried to get him to put a disguise on, any disguise, but he wouldn’t allow it. He just looked at her and said in a calm, quiet voice “No body will notice! No one ever notices!” He had paused. “No one but him…” He had turned away and opened the door.

Gaz watched Zim, almost wishing that she could comfort him somehow. She would never admit out loud that she missed Dib, but a part of her really did.

“That fool went and got himself killed. He really was stupid!” Zim turned and faced Gaz, his face trembling. “He was so weak! Pitiful, weak…”

There was a shimmer of something in Zim’s eyes. Gaz knew it couldn’t be water, she could only guess it was tears, whatever an Irken’s tears were composed of.

“Like me…” Zim whispered. He stood up straighter and pulled a microphone out of his pak. “GIR! Get over here now!”

“Do I have to?” Gir’s voice whined through the microphone.

“Yes! I am your master!” Zim put the microphone back into his pak. He stood up straighter and wiped his hand across his shirt, almost as if he was wiping away shame.

“What the hell are you going to do?” Gaz grumbled.

“I’m going to catch that filthy shit head.” Zim growled through gritted teeth.

Gaz stared at him shocked. She had never heard Zim say anything even close to a swear and she was amazed. The alien was showing more of himself now than he ever would have if Dib were still around.

GIR flew up behind them and settled onto the ground. Zim spun on one heel and faced the robot.

“Scan for any signs of a ship in a 70 mile radius. See if you can find any identifying signatures.” Zim growled out his command at GIR and narrowed his eyes in disgust at the robot. GIR’s eyes turned red and he saluted. The robot slowly revolved and scanned the area for any signs.

“Sir! There is an Irken signal 20 miles away.”

“Away where, GIR?”

“Up.” GIR’s eyes turned blue when he said the word and started giggling spasmodically. “UP! UP! UP! UP! UPUPUPUPUPUPUP!!!!!” He started spinning around. Gaz was enjoying watching him dance.

“Then we go up.” Zim was glaring at the sky menacingly. He looked into Gaz’s eyes but cold stares greeted each other. The Irken walked back to the house and Gaz and GIR followed behind.

The walk back was eerily quiet and Gaz thought she would explode if she couldn’t say anything.

“What are you going to do? You can hardly hurt a human, how are you going to kill a monster?”

“First of all,” Zim snarled and spun to face Gaz. “I could easily kill you, its as simple as snapping your delicate little spine. We are talking about Irkens, and I know their weaknesses. In case you haven’t noticed; pig, I am one.”

“You cannot talk to me like that!” Gaz inched closer to Zim and shoved his small shoulders. “To snap my neck you’d have to reach it first. What’s stopping me from snapping yours?” Gaz and Zim glared at each other, which was a small feat for Zim who had to look up at her.

Zim grunted and turned around and walked into his house. He led Gaz up to the ‘attic’ and they entered the Voot cruiser and took off. They were heading up with the full intent to beat a greeting into a small part of the Irken race.
