System of a Down

The past 2 days were great.

Wednesday I drove to West Palm/Juno/All of those places to meet Mel for an intense luncheon event at the ecology/conservation/whatever the heck department where she works. Not much of a riot but it wasn't bad. After an hour or so of fiddling with a DVD burner that outdated her computer's capabilities by a century at least (has anyone ever heard of a pentium 3 series or USB that isn't 2.0???)and researching possible ways to play Karateka, the ultimate fighting game (which reminds me, i need to download that now) we took off for Ft. Lauderdale.

Upon arriving at our fantastically un-fantastic hotel, we move all of our belongings into our room and changed our clothes and set sail for the Office Depot Center where we proceeded to pay $15 for parking and $35 for a SOAD tour shirt. I like the shirt a lot though.

Talk about being surrounded by depression. Everywhere you looked there were kids dressed in black, writing poems about parents grounding them from their computers and plans to act even more antisocial in retaliation by further unconforming themselves and acting exactly like the other sad, fat, and even more hardcore "goth" kids. Pathetic, really.

So, Bad Acid Trip played, and they weren't all too bad really. Their shirt that was for sale had some logo on it, perhaps the cover of their album, but under it it said "Fuck Bush." Timeless, really. Their music was pretty hardcore, lots of screaming and such, but entertaining enough. The Mars Volta hit the stage and they were pretty badass, as expected. Really chill backdrop designs.

After Volta, we left to get refreshments and came back to see the stage was blocked by a huge, black curtain displaying the mezmerize logo. System started their set from behind the curtain with the "Intro" from Mezmerize and then straight into BYOB. As soon as the first cymbal crashed in the song, the curtain fell and the rest of the 2.5 hours or so was pure intensity.

The next day we went to this gigantic mall in Lauderdale, similar to the international mall in tampa, but much cooler. There I had draft beer flavored gum. Different, for sure.

Oh, and Melanie's new house is done, save a few cosmetics, so I saw that and it was nice.
