i was out early for work this morning so i decided to vote first thing. i don't mind telling you that i decided to vote for gloria la riva of the party for socialism and liberation. sorry obama, but after the kerry fiasco, i swore i would never vote for a democrat again. last election cycle, i switched my registration from the independence party (dumb move in the first place when i was a kid) to the greens. but they disappointed me by nominating the no-one-can-take-her-seriously-after-slapping-a-capitol-security guard cynthia mckinney. i even considered nader, but i'm not even sure where he stands anymore.

then yesterday, i listened to an interview with ms. la riva on my local college radio station. and not only did she reflect my beliefs and principles, but she related them in a very pragmatic context. she said that obviously america wasn't going to become a purely socialistic democracy, and obviously, she wasn't going to get elected president, but she could help build support for some socialistic elements, like national healthcare and truly equal justice. and finally, she concluded the interview by stating that she urged her supporters to go on and continue working for these changes, but also consider the historical relevance of a potential president obama and work with his supporters in the future.
